This place is inside the California hotel and casino. It serves both regular diner food and Hawaiian and Asian dishes. I enjoyed their chicken wings and short rib appetizers. They have daily specials and I tried their chicken katsu and Ox tail stew (they also have a famous soup but served after 9pm). Both were delicious but the chicken katsu needed a better dipping sauce. They gave me A1 but a gravy or plum sauce would have made the dish perfect.I liked that this is one of the few places I've eaten at that is still full capacity. They are busy but the lines move quickly. Great variety and good prices. 5 Stars.
Oxtail, saimin, Moco loco, Portuguese sausage and eggs. Never disappoint! I've gone outta my way even if I'm at a hotel on the strip just to get their famous oxtail soup. The lines are crazy.. as your waiting half drunk and deciding on whether you need to yack or not, the second your seated and you take a spoonful of that broth ....gooodness the enticing flavors just make you feel like a new person. This place makes me happy!! Yes oxtail rocks!!
Had the steak and eggs. It was pretty good. It loses a star due to the layout of the place not of the service or the food. The meal was $16.25 after tax and added $3.75 tip for a cool $20 meal. Compared to a $32 total at Grand Luxe Cafe for the same meal at the Venetian but theirs is on a higher quality with a slightly larger NY steak and home made toast. While market street is at or slight a point above Denny’s but why Denny’s? Will come back for more. The steak was a bit rubbery but not too bad for me and was expecting it so no big deal for me, I ain’t too picky because it was cheap and I was hungry. The service is quick and please tip cause they work hard.
Amazing fusion of foods. The Hawaiian dishes are so good. I had the braised beef ribs, it was cooked to perfection. Lots of variety and flavors.Highly recommended
In A Nutshell:-Like everyone else who's heard of Market Street Cafe, you initially come here for their oc tail soup.-Unfortunately, I didnt read the reviews ahead of time, so I missed out on it bc it's only served from 9pm to 3am, which past my bedtime ;)-Instead, since I was there on a Wednesday, I tried their daily special, the "Hawaiian Combination".-For $14.99 you get a plate of Huli Huli Chicken, Spam, Portugeuse Sausage, Macaroni Salad, Broccoli & Rice-The service was okay, good & kind enough.Overall, the food was good, I need to come back & try their ox tail soup to compare it to mine.
I have been coming her for years, 14+ ever since a friend introduced me to the oxtail soup special. I don't go that often now but definitely a good place to go.You absolutely have to try the oxtail soup, it's what they are known for. Only served from 9pm-close now due to the pandemic.Las Vegas used to be known for a number of things, one of them being prime rib specials. That is no longer the case and prime rib is difficult to find and it is expensive now and that was before the pandemic set in.The good news is the California Hotel/Market Street Cafe is one of 2 of my go-to places for prime rib. You also get a choice of soup or salad, veggies, a side of rice or potatoes, and cherries jubilee for desert. Pretty good deal.Sometimes there is a bit of a wait but I don’t go on weekends or holidays and try to go in off peak hours.
The famous oxtail soup is available after 9 PM, just a heads up the line will be long ! But the soup is so worth it! The broth is very clean, it comes with a side of fresh ginger and cilantro that you can put in your soup and a side of rice. The oxtail is very tender and very tasty. The soup is perfect for a cold day or after a walk at Fremont street experience. It is a large portion as well. I’ve also tried the Korean short ribs, which was very tasty. The island braised boneless short ribs were also very good! The Tocino here is made well too. Overall, great place. They can accommodate big parties although you may have to wait a bit if planning to eat at around 9 PM.
On a recent weekday afternoon, during a busy, lunch hour, I sat at the counter inside the Market Street Cafe and ordered the Patty Melt and a bowl of Zippy's Chili. In all fairness the Patty Melt was good, however, the fries that were served with it were definitely re- heated, old and stale, far from the meaning fresh. it was obvious they did not want to throw them out and save money by trying to pass them off to a paying customer. There is NO way the chef who plated these fries did not know they were old and inedible. Well it did not work, instead they lost a customer. The Chili was also not served at the proper temperature, and after I was served my waitress was gone and nowhere to be found, at least the bus person was able to fill my water. Overall a poor experience, with simply poor food, Thus the Overall rating of POOR!
Ate here a few times on my recent trip to Fremont Street. Service was great, dining room clean, and food was excellent. Highly recommend.
We come here almost every trip, 3-4 times a year. Hubby always gets the oxtail soup. He said it was as good as always this time. I wish there were more late night options. I struggle to find something that sounds good late at night. Some French toast and some more breakfast options would be greatly appreciated. But, this time I tried the steak and eggs and it was pretty good. I would order it again.
