We were invited guests for a relaxed and casual weeknight dinner. Our host wanted to try El Torito Cafe. Frankly, when I saw it i would not think to stop in. It is neighborhood-modest in appearance and it was surrounded by parked cars. Once inside everyone on staff was remarkably polite and friendly. The owner, a lovely lady, visited our table after being informed it was our first visit. She gave us a warm and sincere welcome. It was started by her grandmother, and a daughter manages it.The food is original and good in the way a family's tradition of generations before, is warming when consumed. The rice that is included on the plate is light, authentic, fresh and, though an afterthought at most restaurants, finds prominence in the flavor profile for the dish, much better than a supporting role. Recommended: tamale, enchiladas, margaritas! Clean, as in busy clean, this is a popular place.Worth a visit, as it is modestly priced therefore a small risk to take from the much more expensive restaurants a short distance away at twice or three times the cost.
I've eaten here regularly for the last couple years and love it here. The food is great and the customer service is outstanding. Staff constantly check to make sure everything is okay at your table. I appreciate feeling likea valued customer. I have recommended this place and taken friends here to enjoy a meal.
To start with I must say that our visit was not resent. We arrived and waited about 5 minutes to be seated. I noticed that the waiter was also the bus boy, cashier and phone order taker. He quickly took our margarita order and brought it to the table, Problem is, he never came back. All the time we sat there, the manager was sitting in a corner table barking orders to the help but never lifted a finger to help. I kept looking at her suggesting we needed help but she ignored us. After finishing our drink (about 15 minutes) I got up handed her $10 for the drinks and told her what a horrible manager I thought she was. No response what so ever. Will not return
This was one our favorite mom & pop's when we lived in Vegas. It's been there for a long time. Food is still great but I agree with many other reviews that the service was slow and lackluster. I know times are hard for these types of businesses but it didn't seem too busy to get better service. Go for the food and try the green chili. Wife loves the soup.
Solid authentic Mexican grub. The food is spot on, for the Taco's the fish tacos are bomb but very expensive at $22 after tax. Still I would buy it again.
Not a bad first meal on the road. A nice salad then a beef taco and enchilada with rice and beans. Good attentive service.
Really good food. Super friendly staff. Area looks worrisome but we felt safe while there and it's very clean and the food could be in a much higher level restaurant. The Carne asada enchilada was amazing. The fajitas were really good and a great deal and could feed 2 to 4 people. Unlimited chips and salsa was decent quality. Unlimited refills on drinks

We wanted to like it after seeing so many good reviews. The place was busy too. The service was very slow. Chips and salsa were alright nothing special. Tasted like bagged chips from a grocery store. The guacamole had no flavor. It took awhile for them to take our order and then to get our food. Once we got our food it was so hot like it was sitting under a warmer which made the taco shells soggy and the beans kinda burnt. The tacos had no flavor. Could have made better tacos at home. Again… wanted to love it but won’t be going back.
Always amazing genuine Mexican food. sometimes there's a wait for getting food, always a wait to be seated but worth it. Really recommend coming here!
