we were at V.Mertz for our anniversary. We started out with the cheese plate and a few cocktails. All great. We both ordered the Sturgeon and a bottle of wine. everything was perfect until our main course arrived. clearly no one in the kitchen caught this during plating, and the look on the server's face told the whole story. She looked terrified. My husband had a beautifully plated portion and mine was the microscopic version of what should have been equal. Now, truth - I should have called it out and said not acceptable. Shame on me. However, I would expect from V.Mertz that this should have been caught by the kitchen and at the very least, our server. my husband looked shocked and was like "where's your dinner????" He shared and the food was delicious. just disappointed in first myself, for not standing up and calling it out and V.Mertz for letting it happen.
Overall a fun night, and we'reglad we finally checked the place out. Our server was awesome, and the atmosphere was cool. Our wine and cocktails were delicious. We did the tasting menu, and about half of the courses were showstoppers while the other half left us wondering why the chef has decided to combine mint, basil, chocolate, and apricots all together on one plate. Or why one of the courses was literally almost half just a plate of anchovy flavored sauce. Don't get me wrong, the components were tasty. Some of the dishes just seemed a bit lacking in the composition department.
Based on previous ratings and reviews we left disappointed and expecting more.
V Mertzâs tasting menu was very creative but not sure the creativity actually worked. The ambience was wonderful, service very professional, but the courses just seemed to lack that extra punch. At this cost point, I would recommend Au Courantâs tasting menu in Benson.
Great food, great service and an overall great experience
Always a perfect experience. Most important: fantastic, inventive, expertly prepared food. Add to that an atmosphere thatâs one of the most interesting in the country â honestly! â and a team of super-sincere people and youâve got the ingredients for a truly singular, special experience. My wife and I have enjoyed dining here for over 20 years now. The food, drink and atmosphere never disappoints. Our server, David, is the most courteous and knowledgeable that youâll ever find.
The food was delicious. The service was outstanding. It's the perfect place for a romantic dinner.
Very nice ambience with attentive staff and top tier service. The food is very good but portions are small. If you eat appetizers, entree, and dessert, you will be satisfied though. The drinks are amazing!
Everything was outstanding. The memory of that New York strip and the brandy peppercorn cream will live rent free in my head for days to come. 12/10 will order again.
