I used to love this place. Portions were huge and at a good price. Flavor was immaculate and they made sure they did it right every time. Even after the fire and reopening they still were doing an amazing job. I don’t know what has changed in the last year or so though because it has seriously gone downhill. Somewhat recently they decided to not allow spicy be added to meals and instead give you cups of chili paste to add in yourself. This is not a equal consolation as the flavors are still not right as I have to add it after the fact and COOK MY FOOD AGAIN. The chicken has gotten to be mostly crunch and minimal chicken meat. The sauce was runny whereas every time I have went before it was more of a thick sauce that stuck to the food. I really hate that I have to leave a 1 star review but Three Happiness has gone from the best Chinese food in Omaha to probably okie of the worst in my book. I don’t think I will ever go back again even if they try to make right. I wish someone would buy them and fix everything or just close the place for good as it doesn’t live up to its name anymore.
Ordered take out, got the Chili chicken..the crab rangoon had good flavor but very dense especially the breading. The chicken was incredibly dense and chewy an did not seem fresh none of it was hot or even warm not even to the touch, the sauce was very salty seemed as it was a soy sauce base with a sweet hint to it not the greatest for take out. I stopped coming here years ago and it reminds me exactly why I did.
My family and I really love this place. It has continued to hold a very special place in our hearts (and stomach's!!). However due to significant changes in the local economy and staffing and public health awareness and, well, probably a host of other things, sadly this restaurant as amazing as it is seems to be take out only now. The dining room is no more. I'm sure the food is just as great, just be prepared to call in and order to take home. It is unfortunate but understandable. We continue to love this restaurant despite the challenges that are beyond all of our control and we do not fault them one bit for it.
I ordered the peanut butter chicken and quickly realized under new management since fire and food quality poor. Dried overcooked chicken hard to find in fried pieces and egg roll almost burnt and didn't taste fresh. Ugh!!
First time here. The food is great, except for the Crab Rangoons had more garlic in them than an Italian grand mothers kitchen. If they ease up on the garlic we would love them.
For roughly 30 years Three Happiness was my favorite Chinese restaurant, especially after becoming Vegetarian then Vegan because they offered many Tofu entrees. I craved them so much when they were closed each time they had a fire, like 3 fires over the years, I think. That love affair has ended! The recipes have changed, the portions are smaller, prices are in line with PF Chang's Vegan entrees now since they're nearly $12 each for Tofu entrees. (but no brown rice option.) Worst of all is the flavors are not what they used to be. My Kung Pao Tofu, something I've eaten there dozens of times, was completely different. NO red peppers (I ordered it medium spicy, so instead of 10 to 12 peppers in it I expected 5 or 6.) Nope, not a single pepper, and instead of just the light bit of soy sauce it's usually cooked in, leaving it with a nice, savory char to the veggies and the great umami flavor.... NOPE, not any more... it had SUGAR, lots and lots of sugar. The sauce, and there was a lot of runny, sweet, syrupy sauce that was as sweet as Sweet and Sour sauce.... it was so sweet that even a whole container of red pepper paste didn't kill the sweetness. It was horrible. The tofu chunks instead of being crispy, 3/4x1/2x1" cubes perfectly crispy and chewy, were large slabs like 1.5x2.5x3/4"... they were soggy outside and mushy inside, and rather awful compared to what they used to be. It tasted like bad Mongolian Beef, especially with all of the green onions in it, which it usually never had, and isn't listed in the ingredients on their menu. It was a whole different restaurant. One I will not be returning to. At least I'll never crave it again and just miss the old Three Happiness. Who puts SUGAR in Kung Pao.... Three Happiness. Gag! If you're going to do that, put it on your menu with what's in it.... and don't just say Soy Sauce when you add a ton of sugar. Try Golden Palace on Cass St. They'll make any dish with Tofu and modify to your request. Went there when Three Happiness was closed.
Super good! Will definitely try again.Would recommend ordering over the phone before going. Due to Covid, take-out is the only option.
Unfortunately when we ordered, they said it would be ready in an hour. When I showed up over an hour later, they hadn’t started on my order and waited for another 25 minutes. Got home and proceeded to realize they included no sweet and sour chicken sauce with the one meal and that our food was already partially cold. The sweet and sour chicken was so hard my kids had to pick it up with their fingers because they couldn’t get a fork in it and the crispy chicken was terrible…mostly breading and heavy sauce. And it was all cold so I had to heat it in the microwave. This is the first time we had been back since it reopened and will be the last time. The meal cost us $51.00 for three meals and two soups and is too much money for a huge disappointment.
My review for my experience on 12/17/2021Before I start my review, which is for the food only, let me just say that the young man that waited on me was very pleasant and polite, and that was the best part of my experience tonight.I used to go there before the remodel and the food was very good. We have eaten there many times and their food was ALWAYS very good. Tonight was the first time going back since their remodel but I had my normal expectations of good Chinese food. My order was for one egg roll, a 12 oz. order of hot and sour soup, and an order of the pork in hot garlic sauce. I arrived on time and my food was ready. I immediately drove home. On the way home, I was very surprised that I could not smell my food at all. Anyway, I got home and immediately started eating. My hot and sour soup broth had good flavor to it but that is all it was. Just broth. I'm guessing the person that dished it up did not stir it, as there could not have been more than one or two tablespoons of anything in the soup. It did taste good but it was only a little over warm temperature. My egg roll was about room temperature and not very flavorful. My pork with spicy garlic sauce was next. I opened the container hoping for the best. It was a very large portion, I will give them that, but the sauce was a strangely thick and gelatinous like nothing else I have ordered or received anywhere, and like everything else, barely warm. The sauce tasted like an extremely thick and very slightly spicy sweet and sour sauce of some kind. There were a lot of crunchy carrots and celery, but hardly any pork in that huge container of food. The pork that was in there was cut into the smallest strips that I have ever seen in food, and I could not detect even the slightest hint of garlic. It didn't taste remotely like any Asian food that I have ever had. Massive portion, but the food was completely BLAH! Based on my experience tonight, I will not likely ever go back, and I cannot in good faith recommend Three Happiness Express to anyone else. I would have to say that the owner or owners have ruined a great restaurant.
The combination fried rice I got tonight was lacking flavor in the meats even the shrimp didn't have any flavor. There was literally no differences in the taste of the chicken and pork, it was practically the same thing. The meat tasted boiled and flavorless. The only good thing about the orders we order was that they give out big portions!
