I started trying different cuisines and wanted to try an Ethiopian restaurant. This place is the best! The food is fantastic and the owner even explain everything very well. They have great options for vegan lovers. Great price and Flavor too. I will recommend this to anyone who is looking for vegetarian options.
You absolutely cannot beat this place for Ethiopian in Omaha. Great prices, great food, and an experience you won't forget. Never had it before? Get the combo, it easily feeds two. Before you know it you'll be back - I can promise you that. For the uninitiated, you'll be eating with your hands off a common plate. The bread is gluten free and the combo will get you a taste of everything. Several rolls of bread will be served on the side. You tear off a piece and use it to grab your bites. Most of the dishes on the combo are vegetarian, but not all. If you run out of bread, there's always the bread the food is sitting on, and you can request more - if your stomach can get that far!The owners are local and authentic, good family people, and you can see the cook in the kitchen. Many of Omaha's substantial Sudanese and horn of Africa populations eat here regularly, but you'll also find a mix of midtown, which is in and of itself diverse.I think it's really neat it's in an old pizza hut that's been repurposed, and it definitely has rough edges to match the neighborhood. But you seriously cannot get better food in this strip - no matter how much your grandma likes the Rice Bowl. You absolutely will not regret eating here.
The restaurant sits in an old Pizza Hut building that should’ve been fully remodeled or condemned. The bathroom is smelly and unkempt and not just outdated. I judge places on cleanliness of bathrooms and this place is just the bottom of bottom. I’ve seen better restrooms in gas stations. So that makes you wonder what the kitchen is like. I don’t want to know. The place closed at 7:30pm on a FRIDAY night. What does that tell you? The owner/waiter was in hurry to get out of there. And the service was atrocious. No one explained what was on our COMBO plate. No utensils were offered. No one explains that we must eat with our hands. And the food was marginal at best. You’re better off spending your money at other establishments. If this is the finest example of Ethiopian food there is, then no more Ethiopian food for me. Poor representation of food, service, cleanliness, and general presentation of a professional restaurant.
Delicious vegetable platter that came out very promptly. Great service. Appreciated that the server showed us how to fold up the injera and flip the plate into the takeout container at the end!
I would recommend this place to dine in
My wife and I are regulars at Lalibela and we always order the same delicious dish: the combination platter. This is a delicious mix of vegetables, beans and meat. It is not the kind of dish you eat alone. It’s meant to be shared with friends and family. It is served with a traditional Ethiopian bread and always includes a small amount of injera – the soft, sour pancake that is served with everything. The combination platter is always a good value for money. You get to enjoy a mix of different tastes and textures – and the meal is not as heavy as many other Ethiopian dishes. One of the things that makes this platter so special is the combination of vegetables. They're not all from the same area in Ethiopia, so they each have their own unique flavour.
Lalibla is a gem; it’s one of those restaurants you can easily recommend to anyone. Their menu has a variety of options (including patrons with dietary restrictions). The interior isn’t anything to write about but it’s what makes it unique as a family run restaurant. The owner is very friendly and prompt. After coming here for numerous times, the food is always warm and fresh. The portions are gigantic for the price.Highly recommend to anyone.
Had the dry tibs with injera. So good. I love the eating experience. Spicy, sweet, sour, savory. Combined with eating with your hands. Oh yeah. Thanks again!
If you love Ethiopian food, (or want to experiment), THIS is the place to do it! No alcohol, but the Mango Nectar goes quite well with everything ?...
The food was delicious. The man that helped us out was very polite. Will be back to try different items.
