A highlight of our recent trip to Montana. Our reservation was handled with flexibility and professionalism though they were very busy. We spent time in the bar waiting for the others in our party to arrive and had some of the best cocktails I've had in a while, their house cocktails are amazing and the bartenders knowledgeable and enthusiastic, even tweaked one using an amaro I wanted to try from a local distiller. For our dinner we shared the Tomahawk steak, with sides of scallops and shrimp and it was outstanding; the meat was cooked perfectly, still thinking about it. Exactly the meal I was hoping to have while in Montana! Highly recommend.
This was an excellent experience, with a couple of bumps, but certainly recommend.Service: 5 starsFood: 3.5 starsCleanliness: 5 starsAtmosphere: 5 starsReservations on a Thursday for 5:30. Anniversary.Greeted warmly and seated promptly. Wish I could remember our servers name, but she was great!Ordered Martini's to be paired w clam appetizers. Both were fantastic! In fact, the clams were the best food item of the evening. 5 stars. A must! A couple needed a little more cleaning (sand), but no biggie. Expected.Main: Lamb (my beautiful wife ordered) paired with Temperanillo. I ordered 12 oz Rib Eye "pink" w 3 scallops-paired w a Malbec from southern France. Great wine choices!Steak came out blue and scallops were small and were slighly under. Steak re-fired and was alright. 3 stars for taste. Scallops 3 stars. Value-2 stars. Great taste w the garlic mashed but slightly overworked and somewhat gluey. 3.5 stars Asparagus excellent 5 starsLamb-small portion but delicious. 4 stars for taste-3 stars for value.Had a Grasshopper for dessert. Yummy!Again, overall a very nice evening!
My husband and I went to 1889 for our anniversary dinner last night. The food was delicious - scallops, filets, shrimp, garlic mashed, banana creme brulee, and wine. The quality of the food and the special service we got from Sunny made this an obvious 5 star experience. The chef brought the 5 stars down to 4. We asked for our steaks to be prepared medium rare (warm, red center). When our meals arrived the potatoes were cold and the steaks were overcooked. Sunny was very attentive and took our plates back to the kitchen. When the replacements arrived, the potatoes were warm but the steaks were, once again, cooked to medium. We chose not to send them back to the kitchen a second time. It's disappointing that the chef in such a high class place was unable to arrive at medium rare.Thank you server, Sunny!B & J
The entire experience was outstanding! From the moment we walked in the door to be greeted by friendly staff and throughout, the service was excellent. Our server was Annica and she had impeccable timing. It didn’t feel like she was hovering over us, yet somehow she new the just right moment we wanted to order another drink or needed anything else. We never felt rushed and it was such a treat to linger over a wonderful meal. Our medium-rare steaks were done to perfection and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back many times on our own and when we have visitors from out of town.
Staff was wonderful, I'll say that first. Now, if you like textures that don't taste like anything for a premium price I've got great news for you!Ordered the scallops. Took a bite of the potato, nothing. Took another bite and waited, nothing. Slathered the next bite in their sauce, nothing. Took a sip of whiskey just to make sure I don't have covid, delicious! Bit into a scallop, Nothing. Etc. . .Honestly I'm kind of impressed someone could cook that entire meal and not even accidentally get some flavor into it!
This place is amazing! I always love to come here for fancy birthdays. The mashed potatoes are amazing! The staff are always so nice and greet you with a smile right when you walk in. You never have to wait to be seated or even seen. The atmosfeer is amazing. Perfect window to see outside downtown missoula. The bathrooms are always so clean and tidy. In the Winter, they have candy canes in the bathrooms. I really recommend going here, and I hope you try it!
1889 consistently provides unique specials and appetizers backed with a great steak, wine and cocktail selection. Always have had great service.
The best meal I have had in several years. Tried to book a reservation but they had none available but decided to walk in to see if we could get a table. After a short wait we were seated at the bar. The staff was extremely professional, knew the menu, and knew their drinks. They were also collaborative and kept things running smoothly between hand offs. The food was incredible. We ordered the bread flight and the French onion soup. Many places either over salt the broth or caramelize the onions into sweet gooeyness. Not 1889. Perfect flavor balance with a crunch still left on the crouton. I got the filet which was melt in your mouth tender. She got the shrimp and grits which were amazing. Delicious crisp shrimp and just a little heat to the sauce. Great vibe, great meal.
Food was decent… For an appetizer, I ordered the steak tartare which was delicious; however for the main course I got the NY Strip Steak and it was just a steak nothing really special about it. The waitress was petty, we asked her to not remove the plates before everyone was finished and she decided to never remove our plates and walked past multiple times knowing that we were finished and wanted to have the plates removed. Took about 20 minutes after finishing our meals for us to pull her aside because it was obvious she was not coming on her own.
Ate there last night. I love the atmosphere the staff is awesome. I couldn’t believe they didn’t have any flavored vodka. I wanted a pomtini or hulkberry vodka and she said there is no flavored vodka in house. My friend and I got this special surf and turf. The scallops were raw in the middle and there was absolutely no seasoning on the steaks. And for some reason the mashed potatoes were drenched in oil. I thought that was odd. The butter flight was delicious. With that kind of money I’m not sure I’m too eager to return.
