Food and service were both good!
Good food, good prices, great drinks.
Tried The Golden Hoosier for the first time and loved it! Great atmosphere, fun drinks, and tasty food. Cool patio area too with seating, TV, fire pit, and bar. We will be coming back!
I recommend stopping in. I had a highly pleasant experience with them. As a single male, I sometimes feel like I fade into the woodwork and become invisible in a busy bar/restaurant. That didn't happen at The Golden Hoosier. I went in on a busy Saturday evening after work and sat at the bar. I started out by ordering an Old Fashioned they call The Fantastic Mr. Fox. They put a pleasant spin on the standard Old Fashioned and it works! It's like seeing an old friend all dressed up in a new outfit ready to go out on the town looking better than you thought possible. It went down smooth and easy... wayyyyyyy to easy! I ordered the Hoosier burger with their signature fries. The burger was good, the fries were outstanding. Generous portions too! For dessert I ordered the Gooey Butter Cake and I ordered an Irish Whiskey to go with. The bartender Josh asked if I wanted Jameson and cream or just Jameson. I feel a true Irish Whiskey includes both, but that's just me. I was a little put off that he didn't include sugar. He knew what he was doing. The Gooey Butter was delicious but I had forgotten how overwhelming sweet it is. Seriously, its like sucking on a sugar cube. The unsweetened Irish coffee was exactly what was needed to cut through the sweetness after each bite. The place was packed. Despite being so busy the two bartenders, Josh and Jill always made sure to check in. Jill refilled my water glass several times without me having to ask. They both never stopped moving. Despite being swamped they both remained pleasant and attentive. Jill is a petite little blond who is as sweet as she is cute, and Josh...well...he's nice...and...he's breathtakingly gorgeous in my book. In short: the food was good, the drinks were great, and the service was impeccable and beyond reproach. Stop in and enjoy the newest South City treasure!!
Good food, good atmosphere, good service. Best part for me is most everything is or can be gluten free with the exception of the Mac and cheese. My only disappointment is the Mac and cheese really wish it was gluten free as well to reduce the chances of cross contamination. The fried chicken sandwich is fried in chickpea flour. They even have gluten free fish and chips on Mondays. The Fantastic Mr. Fox Old Fashioned is fantastic. All in all, can't wait to go back and try more.
Get roped in by the name, but stay for the food... The Golden Hoosier has plenty for everyone, and the experience is top-notch! I'll start with the only real negative, parking. The side streets are jammed full, and Kingshighway is always busy. Now that's over, so on to the many positives. The place is pretty spacious with a downstairs, upstairs, as well as outside. We grabbed a table upstairs and despite not having a dedicated bartender on the second floor, the service was still plenty attentive. The drinks were stuff, yet well balanced on the flavors. The large fries were sufficient to split, and the wings coupled with the ranch really hit the spot!
Upgrade from South Town Pub. Nice rehab job. Cool look with all the mounts. They maintained the old Germanesque bar, which I appreciate.I took a star away because the name is a little misleading... With Hoosier in the name you would expect a little bit more of a chiller vibe, but it's trying to be a little more trendy for my taste. Music was too loud to have a decent conversation with my wife sitting next to me at the bar.Drinks were good and they had plenty of local options on draft. There is a little parking behind, which we got lucky to get. Otherwise on-street and there isn't a ton.
This was the first time here. The beers were cold. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The patio was very inviting and open to conversation. The servers and bartenders were very accommodating and professional. They went the extra step to check on an allergy issue with the chef for someone in our party. They did not have to do that. Nice touch! The smash burger was delicious, and the fries sprinkled with rosemary and parmesan are out of this world. I would come back again. Highly recommended for a date night, a game night dinner, or just to get together with a few friends.
Interesting place. Definitely a place I would visit sans family for drinks after work. Simple menu. Wife loved her Hoosier Burger. Kids were mixed in the mac & cheese (one is a mac-n-cheese snob that didn't like the "sprinkles on top"). Rosemary fries are amazing. My friend chicken sandwich was a bit over-fried. Decor and ambience was really cool.
The staff is very interactive, the food is delivered quickly, and the atmosphere is upscale, yet cozy.
