Living up to its name speakeasy is remanent of a time gone by. The name comes from the prohibition era referring to a underground illegal bar. Entry is obtained by ringing a door bell in a alley way and seems almost sinister yet exciting. With its Art Deco styling and intimate seating it takes you to a time when class mattered. They keep entry to a minimum and with seating being 4-6 feet apart it allows for a very intimate setting. There is a reason it’s on the top 10 list. Very cool place, drinks were good. Only wish the music was different vibe. Will visit again!

Nice multi level event space, the Thaxton Speakeasy in in the basement accessed via a alley door and down the back stairs, or through the Grand Hall and through the front staircase, or via the elevator (unfortunately broke down while there). Allow outside caterers, but require in house bar use. Lots of different levels, with an event space up on the third floor, then the Grandhall with Mezzanine overlooking it, all done up with wonderful hand painted murals. Gatsbyesque atmosphere true to era! Third floor wasn't used, but Grand Hall and Speakeasy were, however if wanted, the third could have been available if there were enough people. Very, very neat!

5 Stars! I booked a private event for a birthday and the event planner Kimberly was VERY responsive to my many emails! The event went off without a hitch! The door guy was hilarious and great, the bartenders made great drinks, and the venue was beautiful. I would recommend to anyone!

The drinks here are good, thus the 2 stars. I accidentally told them we had 6 people instead of 8. Doorman wouldn't let the extra 2 people in. Seriously? We get downstairs and the table easily fits 8 and the place isn't packed. What kind of idiocy tells you that two extra people drinking at a table that easily fits 8 is a bad idea. In what world would a business owner not want more people in their establishment? I guess that we were dumb enough to still go inside. I've been here plenty of times before...not going again.Update to owner response: You could have driven a truck through the place and not hit anyone. If it were any more socially distanced you would have had to do a Zoom session with the bartender and have the drinks delivered by an Uber Eats. It's your business, so run it into the ground as you see fit. But you should dispense with the virtue signaling because it's tired.

Wow, a hidden gem in downtown St Louis. A very cool atmosphere. The company I work for hosted an event here and it was awesome. The staff is very friendly and professional. The food tasted very good. The downstairs has a very cool bar and hangout area. This is an awesome event venue. If you are looking for a place to host an event, check this place out.

This place, the employees, and entire vibe was to say the least amazing! Everyone in our group of 40 had an absolute fantastic time here. If I could give this place more stars I would!! Will definitely be returning as well as referring anyone here! THANK YOU TO THE STAFF for being so awesome and making sure we enjoyed every second!! BEST PLACE IN ST LOUIS

I performed at a wedding here. I showed up with my Normal equipment. They refused to let me bring it in, and suggested I leave thousands of dollars of music equipment in my vehicle in downtown St. Louis where cars get broken into regularly. They then used their own equipment and back charged the bride and groom. Their equipment didn’t even have Bluetooth capabilities. They then told me that I’d have to battle the caterers for the elevator. Very unprofessional and pretty rude. The fact that they refused to let me bring in equipment because there “wasn’t enough room” even though there was then back charged the bride and groom for their own equipment is just one way they put their personal profits over a great wedding experience. I don’t recommend.

beautiful place, lovely atmosphere!

We had a great time with our party at the Thaxton. We actually had a suprise 60th birthday dance party. The space was big enough that we could distance from each other but cozy enough to find spaces to chat in small groups. And yes the dance floor was popping too. Highly recommend. Good prize, great service, unique and memorable venue.
