The best calzone I’ve ever had.
Ordered a calzone at 3:30 p.m. on a Saturday from Sauce on the Side, hoping it wouldn't be as horrible as St. Louis-"style" pizza, which seems to be based on a recipe by someone lacking 3 of the 5 senses. The eatery is a 7-minute walk from the hotel we stayed at, according to Google maps. The calzone arrived at approximately 5:45 p.m. (after repeated phone calls inquiring about the delay). It was every bit as terrible as St. Louis-style pizza - and cold. If we're ever scheduled for execution, we'll be sure to order our last meal from Sauce on the Side and death will come as a friend - assuming the meal gets delivered.
Today was the first time I had a calzone from Sauce on the Side and it was truly awesome. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

Great Calzone. Great salad. Great service HOWEVER if there is such a thing as being to attentive it happened here. I was asked 7 times in 15 minutes how my food was etc. twice while I had hot cheese in my mouth. I’m a restaurant world where everyone is understaffed this place doesn’t appear to have that issue. I highly recommend this place.
First let me say, I really love this restaurant but a great deal of how your treated determines if you’ll return. Me and my husband visited this sauce on the side down town around 7:15 pm on 3/23. They messed our order up while we were in the mist of going out of town so we had to get a rain check. The next time we go to redeem our meal which they only replaced one calzone because they couldn’t find they order replacement book. The caller was rude and asked did we call back after the order was messed up again, not only did we call we kept them. The label didn’t match what should’ve been in the box. The rudest person I’ve ever met in a customer service environment. I will not return here and won’t recommend. The Calzone was half done and very greasy. Very displeased
Fresh salads and delicious calzones. We were in town for a convention and ate there twice. Recommend the Magic Carpet Ride with both the garlic sauce and the red sauce.
A delightful surprise of a restaurant. I came in with fairly high expectations due to a friend, and I was not let down! Got the "Meat me in St. Louis", and it was filling and flavorful! I think I might order something slightly lighter next time, but I'd definitely come here again. Plus, I liked their craft sodas too. Everyone else in our large party seemed very satisfied as well.
Our family stopped here in between visiting the arch and The City Museum on spring break. Even mid-afternoon they were pretty busy, but the staff was friendly, helpful, and keeping tables cleared for more guests. We all loved our calzones, and all of us took boxes for a snack later. On top of a great lunch, when we accidentally left behind some souvenirs and I called a few days later, they very kindly agreed to mail them to us. That’s above and beyond! I highly recommend Sauce on the Side when you’re in downtown STL!
I was in St. Louis coaching at a volleyball tournament. This place was a recommendation of my assistant coach that was with me. Wow! This place is incredible. If you like calzones this is your place. Craft beer great food. Fast as well
