BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN MISSOURI. No questions asked. The chicken is moist and tender on the inside, perfectly crispy on the outside, and delicious all over. Out party of five finished everything we ordered and were full, but still wanted more. The cornbread, fried pickles, and cod were about as good as the chicken. For dessert, you MUST try the Strawberry Banana Bread Pudding. The warm bread immediately disintegrates as soon as it is placed on your tongue. This restaurant is incredible.
I really wanted to absolutely love this place... it has MEAT in the name! Plus, I've seen them a bunch on the 'gram, so I knew I wanted to visit for quite some time.My wife and I got lucky and it wasn't super busy just yet when we got there. Unfortunately, the cashier/associate who was at the register/counter didn't seem too interested in engaging us, recommending anything, asking us if we had been there before, or similar. We didn't necessarily feel rushed as others walked in behind us, but the whole process felt awkward for first timers. We eventually chose a few things (breakfast sandwich with fried chicken, Egg Rick Muffin and an heirloom corn waffle). The fried chicken on the breakfast sandwich was spectacular! I'd totally come back to try that in a different format, too. The Egg Rick Muffin was okay at best - the muffin itself is pretty hearty, so if you like carbs you'll enjoy it. The sausage is strange; neither my wife could put our 'finger' on it, but there was something strange going on inside. And we couldn't finish it. The corn waffle is as named (we just had no idea) - it appears to be chock full of cornmeal, so the crunch was a bit of a surprise. Again, had we been asked about being first timers, and been engaged, we would have been more likely to ask questions. The cashier gave us a water cup and one for my paid-for drink, but we were never told what to do with them. Again, opportunity to educate new guests was lost. We sat at a table for 10-15 minutes and I finally decided to just walk around and see if there was a drink station. Found it - over on the backside of the bar. Had no clue, but glad when I found it.The associate who brought our food, which came out at a reasonable time, was nice - even asking if we needed anything else. He even came back later and grabbed some of our dishes mid-meal.The bartender was seriously chatting up 4-5 folks who were sitting at the bar and I wished we had met him first. Seemed really nice and welcoming. We just felt like outsiders, rather than guests.Anyway, like I said, the chicken on the breakfast sandwich was awesome. They have flavor choices and even pieces or tenders (and more). So, I would be willing to just come here for chicken. At least I wouldn't be a 'rookie' the second time.
I was referred here by family as I was going through St Louis. I ordered the fried bologne sandwich. I know, I know, fried bologne?!?!?! Well, yes. But its not bologne like Oscar Meyer, think more like a thick ham steak instead, with an over easy egg, spicy dijon, crisp pickles, broiche bun with cheese...now I jave your attention dont I?! Well, get your own! I ain't gonna share! My side was coleslaw...crunchy, fresh, with a slight tang and a hint of heat. My other side was the honey cornbread, this is NOT your southern style cornbread. Instead this is dense and sweet and moist. My favorite way to have it. Oh and by the way the fountain drinks are all old fashioned flavors. I do believe I will be back. I hear tell the wings they have are mindblowingly good....
My wife and I decided to try this place while visiting St. Louis due to its high reviews. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that their fried chicken which has won many awards was outstanding. It was some of the best fried chicken we ever had at a restaurant before. In addition, the collard greens was a nice mixture of sweet and tangy. Also, the macaroni and cheese was delicious and it was nice to have different soda options instead of the traditional fountain drink options.
Atmosphere was great, it wasn't busy when we went for lunch & it made for a great time! I had the fried bologna sandwich & it was amazing! We also had the fried green tomatoes & for being early in the season they were very yummy!
I ordered their catfish sandwich hot with an Oreo milkshake, and that was the best catfish sandwich I’ve had. Fish was light and flaky, perfectly breaded, and top with a delicious slaw and sauce that complimented the sandwich. “Hot” was tasty but not hot, so if you want spicy, I would try “Extra Hot”. Oreo milkshake hit the spot.
I don’t know. This was my second time trying them. And the visit were spaced far apart.I have extreme mixed feeling about this place. I’m patience but the time it took for me to receive my food you would have thought the food would have been hot. It’s like it sat for 10 minutes then it was brought to me. The tender were the texture of re-microwaved food. Honestly I don’t know if I would try it again.
We loved our experience here. The staff was helpful in answering all of our questions for it being our first time visiting them. The chicken tendersbi ordered were very moist and I loved the Mac and cheese. It was a great night out.
wonderful food and atmosphere. this was the first time I ever ate here and I was super impressed. the chicken fried chicken (I got mine spicy) was delicious and the corn bread was ? (chefs kiss). would recommend to anyone in the St. Louis area.
The Catfish sandwich was the best Catfish I’ve ever had. Great atmosphere, super clean. Definitely coming back!
