Made my night! Stopped by Evangeline's after a very long work week during the Central West End's Meet in the Street event. It was Saturday night and there was a live jazz band. I ate outside, but the music plays out there as well, on speakers, which was very nice.I ordered the Broiled Crab Parmesan, thinking it would be my appetizer. (It is listed as an appetizer.) I was so hungry, but I got full so fast. All that butter, crab, cheese, bread... ? When the server came back for the main part of my order, I was stuffed and just asked for a chicory coffee. The sun set while I was outside, and the people-watching was beyond compare.I loved the atmosphere, the music, the service...and I'll be back for the shrimp po' boy!
Delicious authentic Cajun and Creole foods, chill but classy atmosphere, friendly staff and of course live music! If we visit STL again we will be back! We may even order some gumbo to take home with us (live about 6 hrs away) it's that good!
Such an amazing little spot! The night we were there, the Jim Manley group played some beautiful jazz while we ate a delicious Cajun inspired dinner. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for to celebrate our anniversary.
I had gone to Evangeline's to watch a good friend perform. The atmosphere is okay but the food and service is not so great. For the price points the food needs to be prepared properly. I sent my entire order back because it was not edible. So did two other people at my table.
If you appreciate creole/Cajun food & live jazz music, this place is a must! While the concept isn’t unique, there aren’t any other places in the St. Louis area like it! The service has been excellent each time I’ve been here, and the food & drinks are always tasty! Love coming here on the weekends for brunch or in the evenings to enjoy the music!
Excellent Cajun/New Orleans style food. Everything is very well seasoned. Definitely order the Tabasco shrimp as an appetizer, it's very delicious and not as spicy as you'd think. I ordered the Cajun chicken pasta and my date got the Port of New Orleans pasta, both were had amazing creamy sauces that bended well with the pasta and seafood. For cocktails - order the ramos gin fizz - it takes a while to make but it's like drinking a cloud. Honestly I could have done without the live music, but "When in Rome".
Have been for brunch and bday dinner- loved it. Down to earth atmosphere. Great food. I would not reorder the scallops, at least not at this time in history. The tabasco butter shrimp stole the show...AND the Championship gumbo was phenomenal. Red snapper was awesome too. Nice to not feel rushed due to a place wanting to turn tables. We had so much fun! Hard working staff.
Wow! This has been one of the best creole/Cajun restaurants I’ve been too! Visiting from Texas and having visited several New Orleans restaurants. It was very refreshing finding this place in St. Louis! The drinks alone were very good and strong! I had to to babysit one which I mainly never do. Horney Gator is definitely worth it! The food was seasoned exceptionally well - spices were not overpowering at all. The overall appearance was wonderful. Soulful Music playing in the background set the mood for a jazz/blues mood. Shelly was beyond friendly and pleasant to talk with about our stay. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED will return for brunch and live music during the evening. They have a reverse happy hour after 10pm.
The food is always on point. Good service. Good cocktails. Last time we were there, it felt more like a music venue than a restaurant with live music. The music was too loud for any sort of conversation and I was hoarse by the time we left. We happened to be there for the food and the company. Didn't work for us this time. The music was good anyway. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the Caesar with blackened shrimp. My only complaint is that is I asked to upgrade my dish with grilled andouille, and I didn't feel like I got my money's worth on the upgrade. Oh well. Every bite was great, regardless. We'll be back, no doubt.
This was my first experience and it was absolutely wonderful. I’ve ate at restaurants in New Orleans that didn’t have as much flavor as Evangeline’s!! Wonderful experience EXCELLENT SERVICE. And most of all I got a king cake and Found a BABY in it! Definitely will go back for seconds. 5 stars is understatement.. Great food Greatly enjoy the atmosphere and our waitress was PERFECT.
