Food was average and drink was not my favorite either. It seemed a lot darker inside compared to the last time I had been here to eat. Maybe just came on a bad night

After seeing the high ratings for happy hour and entering somewhat reduced Covid environment we decided to try it out. Upon approaching the hostess station we were immediately greeted and shown a table. It was still early in the happy hour but kudos for the quick attention. The ambiance is that of a Rathskeller downstairs. We had the warm olives followed by the burger and fries, devouring everything almost licking the plate. Food was excellent and looking forward to going back and trying other offerings. I gave it 4 stars because the featured wines were a bomb. Started with the Pinot Grigio, then the Rose and ending with the Sangiovese which I left more than 1/2 glass, something that goes against my nature but that bad. 5 stars for everything else 1 generous star for the bad happy hour wine offerings

Tried Basso because it is adjacent to my hotel and I'd earned a food credit with my stay. Was quite impressed! The basement interior was moody and stylish. Loved the gas sconces.Butter lettuce: a twist on a Caesar salad; good size for one person's meal, but served with tongs for sharing. Glazed carrots: great idea; wish they had a tiny bit more crunch. Margherita pizza: probably the best I've ever had; ask for balsamic to dip your crusts in.Service was fantastic. Especially grateful for the cider recommendation, as well as the information about a few of the more obscure ingredients.

We visited Basso while staying at the Cheshire Hotel on the same property. The Basso is an Italian speak-easy like restaurant that is underground. We decided to check out their Happy Hour our first night in St. Louis and loved it! My Hubs and I got two drinks each and they were very high quality. Nothing watered down at this bar! I ordered the Sole Mio and a chocolate martini. My husband got a Martini as well and I think the Negroni but I'm not 100% sure. We also ordered a Vegan Margarita pizza for only $7 during Happy Hour. Brief word on the vegan cheese, it was a yellow cheese not a vegan mozzarella just fyi. Still very tasty though. Well worth the visit!

My wife and I love this place. The calamari is our go to. The food is amazing no matter what we have tried. Great and knowledgeable staff. Huge selection of drinks. Always worth it.

It's been a few weeks since I came here. It was my first and only time. And I am STILL thinking about it. The pizza was amazing and the cocktails were great, too, especially the old fashioned made with their infinity bourbon bottle. Really cool and cozy ambience. I love that they're open on Mondays. It's a super cool date night spot!

Great space and ambience. Had the basso burger, which was very good. The truffle fries were delicious. Did not try the pizza but it also looked good. Good selection of Italian wines and draft beers.

Basso is one of my favorites in the West End. The atmosphere, food, beverage choice, and quality service makes it a great choice for date night or group outings. The only thing to note is the noise level. The acoustics are not optimal for intimate conversation, especially on a weekend night when they're busy.

This was a fabulous place for dinner! Could be a romantic atmosphere for couples but also welcoming to our son. Our waiter Kyle was awesome and took such good care of us! The pizza and mafalda were to die for! We will definitley be coming back again!
