A family member ate here over the weekend and suggested we try it. We weren't impressed.Upon entering the establishment after 2 PM Monday afternoon, the hostess asked if we preferred a booth or table. We asked for a booth, then she said we would have to wait for one. We capitulated to the table, and the hostess took us back and seated us at a dirty table, dropping menus and silverware in the crumbs and drink sweat rings in front of us. There were two clean empty booths close by and I asked the waitress delivering food to a booth next to us if it was OK to move. As she was the one who would serve us anyway, she said no problem and we moved. Not sure what the hostess malfunction was all about. The place was less than 50% capacity. Our waitress, Iris, took our drink orders right away and had the large icy sweet teas out to us in about three minutes. My wife ordered the Hawaiian Chicken, I ordered the Southern Basket with cornmeal catfish and an additional side of FDs Signature Salad. It took a good while for the salad to show up - so much that my wife asked if I thought they were going to bring it out with the meals - and another 5 minutes after that. It was good though. Crisp lettuce, two cherry tomatoes, two caramelized pecans, a few croutons, and several apple shavings under a surprisingly good lemon vinaigrette dressing. I was done with it and had nearly finished my tea before the meals arrived. The plates looked good. Her chicken was tender and tasty and came with a tablespoon of mango salsa and a dip that was much too spicy for her taste. The generous helping of steamed broccoli was - - unremarkable without butter. The doctored mashed potatoes are unique to FDs and were good.My catfish basket arrived with two fillets vs. three advertised in the menu. There were three hush puppies though, but one was enough as it was quite spicy hot and very much detracted from the meal. A crisp semi-sweet cold slaw was ok, but cilantro didn't do it any favors. A generous helping of lightly battered fries completed the plate.Back to the catfish. "Lightly dusted cornmeal catfish fillets (3) with homemade tartar sauce" is shown in the menu. I got two. The first was very good. Done to perfection. No muddy flavor. Tender with the right consistency and just enough spice to complement the cornmeal. The second plank was different. Not muddy - I think maybe it was out thawed too long? Had an "off" flavor inconsistent with the first and the consistency was different. Almost mushy. Less good.As I was full enough and the "off" taste left me without appetite, I didn't contest the missing fillet. If the cook doesn't know any better and the waitress doesn't know the menu well enough to catch it - it's a management problem. The hostesses actions validate that presumption.
Service was great! Prices were amazing for the amount of food you receive. Wouldn’t suggest the deviled egg appetizer. Fried pickles, Steak, soup, Hawaiian chicken, Alfredo, & key lime pie was all delicious. Very nice place!!!
Had a great experience here. Had not been here in years and met some friends for dinner. The menu was reasonably priced and had a good selection. I had the spinach dip chicken pasta. Huge portion and was delicious. It had a little spice to it but not too much. It was a pleasant surprise. My husband had the fish and chips. Large portions of crispy fish and the coleslaw was good too. The service was good and will definitely be back.
It was our 1st visit to FD's and this place was a pleasant surprise. Jose` our bartender was the bomb, he made the best dirty martinis we've had since moving to Springfield from the Gulf Coast. The blackened catfish and shrimp was the best seafood I've tasted since moving here. My fiancee had the Alaskan fish and chips, he couldn't get over the light and crispy batter. The slaw and fries were also amazing. We give this establishment 10 out of 10. Great food and service, huge portions, and super affordable prices!
We’ve been in the Branson & Springfield area for a week on vacation and this is the BEST restaurant experience we have had! The food was delicious, from salad to seafood, & our teens loved it, too. Our waitress was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. Menu has a nice variety of options. We were too full to try the Key Lime Pie, but maybe next time. Would highly recommend this place!
FD Grillhouse has a fine and varied menu and super prices in a very comfortable setting. I really enjoyed my Southern Fried Shrimp basket with hushpuppies, fries and cole slaw...not unusual but unusually well prepared. We'll be back!!
Magnificent experience! the food, experience, and customer service were all EXCEPTIONAL!. Most importantly for us, they were extremely accommodating and understanding of our family's religious dietary restrictions. The chef even came out to understand everything about our requirements and make sure that he cooked It according to our requirements. That made us feel so fantastic about the service, and extremely satisfied. Then, the food came out, and it was AMAZING! I wish we lived closer to come here more often, but I hope to come down on our next trip to the Ozarks.
Even though we had to wait a bit on a Friday evening, it was so worth it. The staff was very friendly and courteous. I would suggest more benches outside for those waiting. The meal was absolutely delicious. We had steak, shrimp, and salmon, which were all prepared perfectly. I would also suggest offering a drink menu.
The food and the selections are amazing! We had a great server as well. The restaurant was busy and had a 45 min wait but the food was well worth it.
Awesome service, awesome food... Great portions and even better prices... Would come more often if the wait wasn't so long!
