The food is amazing - when they have it. However, they sell out too often and too early. I have been there at 12pm or 1pm on multiple occasions, and they're already sold out of several items. By late afternoon/dinner time, they're often completely sold out and closed. They seem to take pride in this, but it's really a ridiculous business model. Get bigger smokers! Make more food! Also, prices are absolutely ridiculous. I love the BBQ, but they keep making it harder and harder to come back.
being visiting the area, didn't know good place to eat, so I went there by reccomendation by a local friend. You can choose take-out or dine in, we choose the latter. location itself is very basic, just table/seats without waiters, but boys, the meat is GOOD! we choose pulled port and burnt ends (the best part of the brisket) and it was definitely good choice. just be aware once they finish the daily availability (as it is cooked in the proper way, they need time to get the daily batch ready for serving), there is no more!
Just got ribs from city butcher today. They had so much pepper on them that I could not even eat them. Why use so much black pepper?
My group visited on 6/18/22 based on the reviews. We all had the brisket and I also had the burnt ends. The brisket was okay. It could have been more flavorful and more moist. The burnt ens were terrible-very dry. The barbecue sauce was okay. I did not like the mustard one. One person had the potato salad and beans and indicated both were good. However, their sides were very limited. We went on a Saturday late afternoon and there was no one there. That was a bit concerning and a red flag. However, we decided to go for it. I wish that we had not. I will likely never go again.
Everything at City Butcher is top notch. The burnt ends were the best I have ever had and the potato salad could complete with anyone’s. The staff was also extremely friendly.
It was amazing. We had the burnt end sandwich and the brisket sandwich with the jalapeño corn and potato salad. The only thing that was just good was the potato salad. Everything else was so good, best in the area, and we had tried many. The small side is large enough to share. The brisket is so tender it almost melts. No sauces needed for this bbq
Friendly staff, but prices were too high for the less than memorable food. I got the burnt ends sandwich with a side of Jalapeno Cheese corn. Meat was juicy, but the spicy sauce was too sweet. Jalapeno cheese corn had a little kick but seemed like it was missing cheese. Not worth the price paid. Also not a fan of the glass put up around the ordering area. Will probably not go back or recommend. Wish the best for this estabishment!
We had planned to visit a nearby Indian Restaurant but they were full at the time. We happened to be right next to City Butcher & BBQ so we decided to go in. I have eaten a lot of BBQ in my life. This place is some of the best. There is indoor and outdoor seating which offers a nice variety. Like most BBQ joints there is a order window and you wait in line then have seat when you get your food. The line was not long when we got there but was getting deep when we left. That's always a good sign!My son ordered the "Pitmaster's Duo" sandwich which is brisket and pork belly with a side of cole slaw. My wife had a burnt end sandwich with potato salad. I sampled brisket, pork belly, and a few bones of ribs. Everyone had more than enough food and everyone was happy. My wife raved about how tender the burnt ends were, I was not allowed to try them so that should tell how good they were. The potato salad was basic but tasty. My son's coleslaw was hard to describe being neither sweet & sour nor creamy. It was good and a very fresh tasting addition to the meat. The brisket was some of the best I've ever had. It melted in your mouth and had an excellent, pepper heavy, rub. The pork belly was an exciting find as most BBQ restaurants do not offer it. It is not for people who don't like a lot of fat though. The ribs were St. Louis style and had the same rub as the brisket, very tender but did not fall off the bone (as they should not). They offer 3 sauces: the standard is a Texas style - a little sweet, a little sour, and a little heat; the mustard - a South Carolina style and is extremely tasty with everything I had; and the spicy - a spicier version of the standard which was my favorite.I would suggest stopping by. This was on a list of 25 best BBQ places in Missouri and I can see why.
Out of everything on a Saturday afternoon. Cost was high, No plates, nothing to eat off of. ?
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Overall Go to Wendy’s next door you will be happier.
