Friends from out of town wanted to meet for breakfast on a Sunday as they drove thru KC and I'm so glad I suggested The Homesteader Cafe. The food and service was top-notch (I had the chicken and waffles and they were fantastic). We'll definitely be back.
Homesteader Cafe serves the best Chicken & Waffles in Kansas City! Add to this the amazing service and quality drinks. The only bad thing is that seating is limited, but it make sense because of the great food and nice people that work here. They also have unlimited mimosas. Try this place if you live in the Kansas City Area!
I wouldn’t give a star if I could. Everything was a bit of a let down. We had been looking forward to this reservation for a week and the food was very under whelming. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs and potatoes a la carte and a michelada. The Bloody Mary mix was foul at best. My eggs were over cooked and my potatoes were undercooked and cold, had to send them back. The biscuits and gravy were the saving Grace as the Buffalo gravy was meaty and creamy. This was a very sad start to my birthday and I don’t plan on returning.
This was one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. The service was very slow and the food was nearly inedible. We had reservations, but didn't get seated for quite a while because there seemed to be no host. I got the Chilaquiles Tostadas which tasted like soggy acid. We ended up going to Waffle House afterwards, which in comparison seemed like a five star establishment.
Based on the reviews we were excited to try a new local brunch place that wasn’t a chain. The server kept walking away as we were trying to talk to her which was frustrating because drinks and appetizers could have been ordered at once, refills and those extra sides to go with orders could have all come together instead if of waiting for her to come back while our food is getting cold. The kitchen staff didn’t communicate they were out of stuff so we were waiting to get it in the side just to find out we couldn’t get it, again while food is getting cold and the stuff that was out was part of the reason half the table ordered that item versus another and the accommodation by the manager was $1 off.We sat there and waited to leave, a timer was set and at the 20 minute mark I looked around and the lunch rush was over a good portion of the tables were empty so we were a little baffled as to why we weren’t getting our checks so we could leave, instead of just dipping. Then when the manager was asked questions she also just walked away, so I guess we found the one who’s training this staff. After inquiring about if we are gonna be allowed to check out we waited a few more minutes while our serve helped serve other tables and manager kept wiping down tables. So I asked the manager again where we are supposed to check out and she acted it was an inconvenience to take our checks…to which she handed them to the server because apparently she was too busy wiping tables for people who weren’t there yet instead of taking care of guests who are there or ones who are ready to gtfo and just not happy with the service that was over priced for what was paid.Overall wouldn’t go back or suggest it as a place to go. tYhe experience was well below subpar, the food was ok (not one person was like oh wow this is really good), but since it was palatable it gets a star. The couple of drinks we got were actually the highlight of the meal (the second star)-percolator was really good l, there was another with praline in it that’s wasn’t bad, and I’m not a fan of pecans. The mimosa and beermosa weren’t bad, and $18 for bottomless isn’t a bad price (altho would be better with grapefruit Juice imho). For what we paid we would expect a lot better and this place just did not deliver.
Really disappointing experience! Was very excited to try based on reviews and images from Google. Actually decided to skip brunch at the Savoy in the hotel we were staying to try. Went to Sunday brunch at 915am. The restaurant was not extremely busy yet. The food was served almost cold. The green tomato Benedict could have been great but having eggs come out cold isn’t good. You could tell the food had been sitting under a warmer for a while as the biscuits and gravy had set up and started to glaze over and were cold. The server put the dishes on the table. He didn’t ever ask if we needed anything else and never came back to ask how the meal was. He brought us a check for someone else’s table. Totally understand that restaurants are struggling to staff and service can be slower, but it shouldn’t be at sacrifice of a hot meal. Would have shared the poor experience in person but upon leaving no one was available at the front and the restaurant had become full.
We celebrated my daughter's 7th birthday at the end of January on a Saturday. I was very happy that I made reservations to ensure a table. The service was outstanding and our server, Katie, went out of her way to make my daughter feel special. The chocolate filled beignet was AMAZING! The view of downtown was fantastic and all the food super yummy! We had a great time!
Food was pretty good. My pancakes had other food in them. The grill wasn't kept properly cleaned apparently. It is super loud in the dining area. Our waiter Rei was amazing.
We ordered bottomless drinks, the service was awful. Took 30 minutes to get a refill on our bottomless drinks. Spoke with the manager and all she wanted to do was make excuses for the server and poor service.
Homesteader is a great spot for brunch! Bottomless mimosas and other breakfast cocktails on the menu here. The cinnamon roll and chocolate-filled beignets are both amazing . Four people can easily share the beignets. The Chicken and Waffles is perfect. The Biscuit Egg Benedict has pork belly and is *very* rich. There's patio seating added when the weather is nicer. They're currently recommending reservations due to staff shortages. Parking is street parking. It's located in the 1st floor, entrance is accessible. There's a curtain to keep the chill/wind out of the main restaurant. The restrooms are accessible. Staff here is great and we had amazing service from various employees.
