I’ve tried Papu’s 2 times, once in 2020 and again today. Both times, the girl at the counter met my eyes right away and said hello. Both times, I ordered the gyro sandwich and a side of hummus. The hummus is traditional - chickpeas, tahini, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice. Cucumber, olives and feta cheese on the side to mix in.It’s served with a rolled up pita. I think it’s great - hummus is versatile and can be flavored in a million ways - some of the reviews seem to have a flavor expectation in mind rather than enjoying the way Papu’s makes theirs. Use salt if you want, it’s that easy. I prefer mine how Papu’s makes it. The gyro…omg. Tender, perfect meat with big flavor. It’s huge too. Seriously, it’s wonderful. They make your food upon ordering, also very cool. I got a chance to speak to the owner today while I was waiting - he’s very interesting and works likes mad as they now have a location in Independence. The gas station location is legit - it doesn’t have a “limited” menu like 1 reviewer observed. It’s a tiny cafe in a gas station, the menu size is perfect and the owner uses only the best ingredients. Goods and labor are more expensive and have been for a while, it’s seen at every food establishment and grocery store, not sure why one reviewer said it’s pricey. I paid $16 and I’m literally stuffed and happy. As a Waldo resident, I believe we need to support the small businesses here. Ya aren’t gonna find McDonalds prices there but you WILL find kind, interesting folks with diverse backgrounds, willing to share that diversity with you. I’ll be back to Papu’s more frequently, it’s awesome and the people are great!

A wise man lived on a hill above a small town. The townspeople often approached him to solve their difficult problems and riddles. One day, two lads decided to fool him. They took a dove and set off up the hill. Standing before him, one of the lads said "Tell me, wise man, is the dove I hold behind my back dead or alive?" The man smiled and said "I cannot answer your question correctly". Even though the wise man knew the condition of the dove, why wouldn't he state whether it was dead or alive?

I tried to ask a few questions about ingredients and the man working kept brushing off my questions concerning a allergy ingredients when. I had to ask him multiple times to just check the pita for me. I tried to ask one more question and he rushed me off to help the people behind me. Which I get it but I wanted to know if I could eat here. Definitely a bad experience. We left him a $1 in the tip jar hopefully he gets how awful customer service that is won’t ever be going back.

They have really good food. Always very flavorful, fresh, and hot!

Used to be great.. but they’ve gone way down hill recently. Last time we went everything tasted off… the falafel was stale, veggies were not fresh, and the hummus tasted old.

Been coming here for years. The gyros here vary from the best, to the worst, depending on when you go. Only go when the guy with the mustache is working, and I think it's only during weekdays. He makes them perfect. On the weekends it's some other guy, and he undercooks the meat.

This place deserves zero stars if that was an option. Had to throw all our food we ordered away because it looked so bad. The hummus was runny and looked really really old. Someone should call the health department on this place. Stay far far away!

This place is disgusting. Had to throw away 2 dinners because the feta on the salad looked moldy and the hummus was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Nothing looked fresh and we didn't want food poisoning so we threw it out. Better safe than sorry.

Amazing place with awesome workers- their gyro is amazing and really gave me and my betrothed one of our best Mediterranean experience ever.

Prices went up, less food--but the chicken swarma salad was still excellent!
