Wonderful! We were able to make reservations for our anniversary which you don't see very often anymore. We were provided a table as soon as we arrived. Beets that were offered; were not my jam but I'm sure were top-notch for those that love beets. Our Steaks were perfectly cooked the way we asked and there were so many leftovers that we had a whole other meal. Would love to go back.
Blew in from Chicago for an excellent steak and was not disappointed in the least. Decent sized steak a little but not overly pricey. What I really liked about this place was their wall of fame. A whole wall with plaques dedicated to their numerous long time customers. Customer plaques for 25, 30, 50 years!!!! Not that says two very important things to me. 1) That people love to come back again and again because the service and food are great and consistent over the decades. and 2) this is a place that truly appreciates those long time customers and that's a rare thing in a world that is increasingly ruled by disembodied transactions. Should I blow into town again, I'd definitely revisit this institution.
Had a family gathering dinner of 10 adults, all from out of town. VERY happy with the service and food. We had the Frog Legs, deep fried mushrooms and another appetizer - ALL GREAT!. Soft drinks and 10 meals (including 8 steaks). Including the 20% tip, our total bill was just over $550.Glad we found this place, based on a locals recommendation.Would return and try more of their offerings.
We went to Jess and Jim’s steakhouse for our anniversary. We had been there several times before. It will be our last time eating there. Service was ok and we were seat promptly with a reservation. The fresh beets are a winner with my wife. She had the porterhouse medium with shrimp scampi on the side. The steak was of poor quality and not cooked correctly. The edges were well done and it had a cold red center. The shrimp tasted like rubber dipped in garlic. Even with a sharp steak knife she spent most of her time cutting all of the gristle out of her steak. She said the salad was good. I had the prime beef soup. Not bad but tasted like pot roast, not very prime. My steak was also filled with gristle and fat and poorly cooked. Well done to medium rare. The highlight of my meal was the baked potato. Pretty sad for what was a great steakhouse. Save you money and go to Texas Roadhouse you will get a better meal for a lot less money. We will not be going back
Went with a large group. Don't know how the others' steaks were, but my wife's and mine were tasteless and a bit tough. (Medium and medium rare) Service was good as was salad and potato. For a place that is known for steak, I can say the chicken fingers might have been a better option. Outback is better quality and considerably better priced.
Best steak I've ever had!!!We received a gift card for Christmas to Jess & Jim's and finally tried it out last weekend. It was a Saturday evening so my husband called ahead and made reservations which worked out. We got there at about 6p 6pmit wasn't really packed when we got there but within 10-15 minutes of us sitting down there definitely was a wait so I'm glad he called! Our server was very nice and helpful. She brought beets out..didn't try them toasted and French bread. We ordered the appetizer sampler that came with fried Mac n cheese bites, buffalo chicken wings, and onion rings. The appetizers were my least favorite part of our visit. The wings were small and tasted like the frozen bag from Tyson or something. The Mac n cheese bites were okay, not really anything exciting. The onion rings were pretty good. The actual dinner is the most important part! I ordered the 16oz sirloin, twice baked potato and salad. My goodness! The steak was so good, I asked for it to be medium well and it was perfect. The salad was very fresh and a nice size. The potato was huge and yummy, I think they used Irish cream butter. My husband had the steak burger and it was huge! He never has leftovers but he definitely did on this night! We did have drinks as well which were strong & good!Heated my left overs the next day and my daughter tried the steak & potatoes. She thought the steak was so good and asked to come here on her birthday (she's 11 lol)We will definitely be back and I'll be enjoying another steak for sure!
My wife and I ate there on Valentine's Day, and we loved it. The food is excellent. We ate steaks; their rib eyes and filets were very juicy and flavorful- tender and only seasoned with a little salt and maybe pepper. Our waitress was on the ball and friendly, bringing what we wanted very quickly with a great smile. We have eaten there before, and keep going back.
Great service, neat atmosphere and nostalgic feeling. Food was good, steak didn't have a ton of flavor but was cooked perfectly. Would go back for sure
We enjoyed an early New Year's Eve dinner here while visiting family in Kansas City, Mo. An unassuming locale you might miss otherwise, it can be spotted by the giant steer on the roof! The steaks are cut fresh daily, and were cooked exactly as requested. Prices were reasonable considering the meal also includes a soup or salad, side dish, and Texas toast for the table. Portions are generous - especially the baked potatoes which were the size of a large grapefruit! Service was prompt and friendly, with drinks refilled before asking, even with a busy night and staff shortages. Highly recommended, and plan to return on our next trip back!
I cannot believe this place is listed on some of the KC best steak houses lists you can readily find on Google. I understand this is a family establishment that's been around for a long time, so long it felt like I was sitting next to three generations of customers in there. But the steak was very bland, the cooking was not even, the sides were very forgettable and they didn't do anything to warrant the price. I liked the complimentary pickled beets, it was unique and tasty, but I can't imagine wanting or even enjoying them on a second visit. This is a decent albeit expensive steakhouse but you can easily make comparable steaks at home if not better for cheap and if you want to go out to get a steak there are half a dozen places that bring something unique to the table compared to this (like a well seasoned steak). This is a place in KC that has survived, I have to assume, on the backs of people who don't know better. The staff was kind, the atmosphere sparse or creepy. If you're going to go, get the baby sized baked potato. At least it's marvelous size will delight you when you realize it too isn't thoroughly prepared.
