You just expect Grinders to be busy on a Saturday with a concert scheduled the same night, so we didn’t really expect to get a table, but NEEDED some pizza and decided to try. Not only did we get a table, but we had great service to boot! And the NY style pizza was fantastic and exactly what our day drinking group needed.
I stopped here for lunch it was not very crowded the fried mushrooms were very good and I loved the Chili cheese fries. The Philly was ok but nothing special. Overall I would eat here again
Good pizza and great beer selection. Not my favorite style of pizza but good. Great atmosphere and attentive staff. This place was suggested by a friend. Would definitely send some other people here.
Very laid back atmosphere. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. This was our first time here. I ordered a chicken fajita salad and it had lots of good flavors. The only thing I would have changed was the chicken being dry. The bloody Mary's take on a smokey peppered taste, but were very good. Our food came out odd.. we had 2 pizzas & a calzone delivered to our party. They were finished eating before the salads and burger were delivered to the table. Will definitely visit again to try other things. The kids loved seeing peoples dogs so that was a plus!
Didn't know what to order so they recommended a Philly. That had to be the best Philly I've had in years! AWESOME!!
Not all that clean, older furniture and decor, but this place knows what it is and doesn't back down from that. The menu reflects well the sort of place Grinders is. Just have a look at some of the names of their food. While they boast their pizza on the sigh out front, I was not in the mood for a pie, funky or otherwise. But the JAX Ruben got my attention. Went to order it and was told it came with chips, or I could upgrade to fries or tots. Given neither would pass my doctors 'sniff-test' I asked if there were other options. They offered up a side salad and thus, I don't have to do any Hail Mary's in my doctors waiting room. The Ruben was great: well marbled rye, lots of pastrami cut ice and thin, a great dressing and a jalapeno cole slaw that kicked things up nicely. If I ever found myself here with a group, I would push for a pizza because the place smelled great. But again, nothing fancy here at all. A dive in every, good sense.
Quick warning, nothing but pizza after 7pm. That said, their pies are on friggin point. Nothing else to say about that. Went back the next day for the Phillys we went for (Phillies?). I had the stretch (adds pastrami), my brother and son had the regular, we all got trailer park tots. Was it Geno’s? No. Was it great? Yes. As good a Philly as you will get outside Philly. Owner was outside working on their stage which I’d love to see a show in one day, he and his dog are super nice. He told us he’s from Philly and in no case would he use some kind of Whiz replacement. Good on him! I think the best thing I can say about Grinders is that I will go there every time I’m in KC. (I went last time for to-go slices, had a small issue that they made right.) Google doesn’t have a click for it, but they are very dog-friendly. We didn’t have ours but a lot of people on the patio did. Guess I didn’t take a pic of the pie.
Fun dive bar with a good selection of canned and bottled adult beverages! Pizza was really good and we were happy to buy some BBQ sauce and meat rub to take home and try. Glad we saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dive in order to give it a try when we were in town.
This is one of my favorite go-to places in town. The atmosphere is excellent, with one side being quieter and the other side being more Rowdy with a bar. The food here is fantastic, the staff is absolutely wonderful, but it's such a fun local spot. I will support this business as long as they are still around oh, forever a family favorite! This is a great spot for anyone or any situation. Kids love to sit on the Rowdy side as you can draw on the walls! We love Grinders and stretch!
Cool place with a ton of character. The table is made from an old bowling lane... The food has been good the couple times I've been here. Will visit again when in the area!Still sooo good! The pizza is dynamite!
