I was there with 4 friends. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. The restaurant is definitely a piece of KC history. It is beautifully decorated with fabulous historic pictures. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, from the escargot and calamari to the prime rib and fillets. If you like blue cheese, I'd definitely recommend the blue cheese butter on your steak. Our server, Craig, was everything you could as for, plus some. When asked, he made some good suggestions, he was very attentive, he also gave us a little tour and history lesson on the restaurant and stockyards area. It really topped off our wonderful evening. The bartender is to be commended as well. The expresso martinis and dirty martinis were top notch. I would love to be able to return soon, but the prices prohibit that for me. I'll have to save my next visit for a special occasion.

The food was delicious, I had the skirt steak and my husband & son had the KC strip. Both agreed that mine was the best of all. Our server Briget was simply amazing. She offered great insights to the wine as well as the entrees. It was a perfect evening until the manager/owner came to check on us. We raved about the food and Bridget, then commented on the wonderful pace of our food. Her immediate response was that we were messing up her reservations. If I’m paying over $50 for a steak, with all the extras for an additional cost, (total bill for 3 was $475 + tip) I am going to take my time and truly enjoy my food and the experience. The manager/owner really took away from our evening, making us feel unappreciated. Later the manager/owner came past us again, stating that she did not actually have anyone waiting for our table, but she was giving the "stink eye" to the party of 6 across from us. That was so unprofessional. You don't complain about customers to other customers.5 stars for Briget, took off 2 stars because of the manager/owner's attitude. Next time in KC, we will find a different steakhouse.

What a disappointment! I had been here several times to this restaurant when I lived here, came back to visit Kansas City with my daughter on spring break vacation , had not been here since 2006. The food has seriously gone downhill, our steaks were blackened to the point where all you could taste was charred, tough meat. So sad! The wait staff used to dress professionally. The best part of the meal was the wedge salad and bread. The extremely belligerent manager proceeded to argue with me insisting that I had ate there in 2018 when I had not been in KC since 2006. This was the last place I ate with my mother before she died- what a horrible experience! Skip this and go to Ruth Chris or Hereford House , the food is overpriced and terrible - what a shame!

My son came home the other night and said "Mom I had the best meal I have to take you to The Golden Ox I think it's new". I chuckled of course stating it has been around for years. So, tonight 8 of us went for dinner, not having been for years. Our steaks/dinners were wonderful! My dad told old stories about the stockyards when he was young. Great evening.

This place is where the Kansas City Strip was created, and well worth coming here to experience it. My ribeye was excellent, cooked perfectly and tasted great. Nice choice of cocktails as well. Decor is vintage and upscale. Highly recommended!

Truly outstanding. I’ve been all over the world and this place is second to none. My wife loves red meat more than me, so obviously she’s happy, which makes me happy. I’ll definitely be back and I’ll fast for 3 days to make room for this amazing feast.

I had a reservation for my birthday and the experience was horrible. I was aware of the pricing so that was not the issue. I had a party of 9 and the server seemed uninterested in serving us. My sister order a bottle of wine which never showed up, so she eventually canceled it. There were 4 steaks ordered and they all were burnt. We had to ask several times for simple items like ice. And before we could finish out sentences with the waiter he would walk off. The manger tried her best to fix the experience but I’m here to say we will NEVER return. I didn’t feel welcomed and hope this doesn’t happen to someone else in the future!

The Golden Ox is a beautiful, old "establishment " type restaurant. We met friends for a birthday dinner here. The bartender and our server were very personable. We ordered oysters on the half-shell to start and they were soo good! The steaks however, were not cooked to order and poor quality meat for a high end steak house. Overall, oysters were the best part of the meal ...but they didn't have to cook these. Maybe it was an off-night but I'm in no hurry to return here. Very expensive as well which I wouldn't have minded if the quality was better. Lastly, we were told they have their own Baker for the starter breads--these were excellent.

My friends put together an evening of visiting different breweries around Kansas City for my bachelor party and we accidentally walked into the Golden Ox while trying to get to Stockyards Brewing Co. This may have been the most fantastic accidental restaurant visit that has ever happened to me! The entire staff was incredibly friendly and the service we received was top notch. Zac took care of us for almost 2 hours, made us feel right at home and made our experience fantastic. I sincerely appreciated everything he did that made our evening great. I can’t wait to come back!

We went to Golden OX for the NYE celebration, which turned out it was the best choice we ever made. The food was excellent; the most important we genuinely appreciated was the staff members' services; we especially shouted to Dexter Melton, our waitress, who made our unforgettable night in the restaurant. We will be back. Again, thank you so much for your service, Dexter.
