Don’t look at this as a replacement for McGonigle’s. They’re not. We ordered several months ago and are just now finishing the order tonight. If you’re jonesing for a steak from Bonanza steakhouse circa 1982, this is your joint. The meat we got was far less superior in quality to what we used to get from McGonigle’s. And the steaks were puny, tiny steaks. The flavor was not anywhere close to what we used to get from McGonigle’s. There will only ever be one McGonigle’s. Long live McGonigle’s! We won’t buy from them again.
The selection at Fareway Meat Market is exceptional. They also have a variety of groceries, so it really is a one-stop-shop. You do have to be a little aggressive to get service at the meat counter. They are usually really busy and if you don’t speak up, you might be waiting for awhile. I’m 5 foot nothing and I wait patiently until an employee asks for the next customer, I throw my arm up and yell out my order. This is key to not being overlooked. Even though they are busy, the staff is incredibly helpful. The jalapeño poppers are so good, but honestly, I’ve never had anything bad from Fareway Meat Market.
Just an FYI: I've been a customer for many years. Wrote an article on this wonderful little one of a kind and Mike in Homes and Gardens. They hang and age the beef on site...buys from a small packer in Iowa, Mike is meticulous ... um meticulous... about the sides. I can only say that Fareway will do the same.
Came in to grab some lamb ribs. For some reason the lil guy had an issue with me asking to choose the pack i like. Denver lamb ribs are expensive and i have purchased them like 3x (2 of those times have been shady) from there but never again. Dude who helped me must have forgot that you can get the same product from a more respected lamb vendor online, which is who i will be dealing with in the future. The selection was never all that good anyway
Sadly, this is not McGonigles anymore. 3/4 of the store is liquor and beer so groceries are minimal, produce not very fresh. Half of the meat counter now carries the marinated and stuffed meats all the gro ery stores carry, so the selection suffers. I used to pick the size of steak I wanted. Now they are trimmed to certain sizes. Staff are ok but not overly eager to help.
We got smoked burnt ends and smoke brisket. Wow! It's awesome. Our family enjoyed this very much. Warmed it in a crockpot with Gates BBQ Sauce.
Your hamburger meat is amazing!!!! Most tender delicious burgers. Thank you!! Wish everyone’s meat was this tasty.
Worst customer service at the meat counter. I had asked for half of a leg of lamb and the young lady that waited on me obviously didn’t want to be there. In the end I received more than 2/3 of the leg, only one pound had be been cut off, very unethical. I left the wrapped meat on the counter and walked out, I will never go back. Too bad since I really want to support locally owned businesses. Sorry to see this place to go downhill.
This is a great meat market. They have the highest quality meats and have a solid variety of products to choose from. The service is very helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. I will definitely be back.
Watch out for expired food. This new Fareway Store is not up to the standards of the old McGonigle’s which would never allow this to happen. Imagine my horror when prepared stuffing I bought for the Thanksgiving holiday was expired. Really Fareway Market! Shame.
