Friendly service & Pulled Pork was tender. Baked Beans were a bit too spicy for me but they were good
Definitely worth the hour wait! We got there at 11 am, he opened at noon and was sold out by 1230!! The brisket was flavorful and didn’t need any BBQ sauce and the ribs were spot on. Absolutely loved the cheesy smoked elotes and the Mac and cheese. If you’re ever in the Kansas City area I highly recommend checking out this place, you won’t be disappointed!
Nice people, cool digs, and a spot downtown that knows how to brisket the right way. Highly recommended!
Hands down the best tasting , highest quality bbq in KC. Always on point !
For the love of Brisket, I wish I lived closer. The brisket at Chef J BBQ was hands down the best I've ever had. It is flavorful, had a great smoke ring but what makes it the best is how moist it is. It will now be my comparison point for all other brisket. Do yourself a favor and go to Chef J BBQ and order as much delicious brisket as they have. Yum!!!!!
I was at Stockyard BBQ store, which is across the street from Chef J's and found this place on accident. I'm ALWAYS looking to find the BEST BBQ in KC, and today is that day. When you think of BBQ, you don't really think Italian Sausage, well that's about to change. Chef J's sausage isn't just the best in KC, it's one of the best I ever had, and the spare ribs, forgetta bout it, meat fell right off the bone. Both sides were out of this world. Two meat combo, no drink, came to about $25. Service was good, atmosphere was really cool, plenty of parking, and the BBQ is thee best.....The only reason I give this place a four instead of a five is the restroom, the restroom really needs a thorough cleaning. Other than that, definitely check this place out.
ALERT: TOP FIVE PORK BELLY BURNT ENDS NATIONWIDE. Kansas City Magazine recently saluted Chef J as the second best BBQ restaurant in greater Kansas City-- and with good reason. If you like central Texas style 'cue, you will definitely want to pay it a visit because this would be a serious contender for a spot in Texas Monthly Magazine's vaunted top fifty were it located in the Lone Star state. This was our 290th 'cue stop in 32 states, the 20th in Missouri. We were second in line 20 minutes before the opening on a Thursday morning, but would come much earlier on Saturday or Sunday when the many high-end antique shops that dominate this area do most of their business. If on-street parking proves impossible, there is a large open parking area a block to the south under the interstate. We purchased a 4 meat platter (fatty brisket, ribs, turkey and jalapeno cheddar sausage) with sides of elotes and potato salad, an additional side of mac 'n cheese, and the star of the show-- a half pound of the pork belly burnt ends. The pork belly is meat candy ... a perfect marriage of meat and rub. The quantity is limited, so go early! The fatty brisket is some of the best to be found outside Texas ... moist, tender enough to cut with a fork, and blessed with a generous pink ring and decent bark. The ribs were well prepared, separating cleanly at the bite, and featuring a rub that complemented rather than overwhelming the flavor of the meat. The seasoning on the sausage was appealingly different, but the turkey turned out to be quite dry even a few minutes after the opening. All 3 sides were excellent, but we especially recommend the mac 'n cheese because it is a treat to watch it being made to order. We give Chef J BBQ our highest recommendation. Enjoy your meal, but enjoy your surroundings as well. Brisket was the best I’ve ever had. Burnt ends, phenomenal. Potato salad and smoked elote-fantastic! The only downside to this place is not serving beer.
This was ordered from the company that I work for. The meats were tender and moist but does not meet my expectations for legitimate BBQ flavors. There seems to be a well defined and deep smoke ring. Don't let this fool you though. The smoky looks are just looks. Mild at best is all I can say about the smoke flavors here. They do have some jazzy sauces to help out though and you will need them. The sides were also just par. If your looking for some nicely smoked meats this is not for you. If you are looking for a average oven bake meat then you found it.
Food was amazing! The flavors were great. quick service, good amount of food. Fall of the bone ribs,?
