Go for the bbq, stay for the cheesy hush puppies!!!!!!! Absolutely amazing, and so much flavor in those little balls of heaven! Our waitress was super nice, and very helpful! Will 100% be coming back!

Great food, great atmosphere, nice staff! Love the outdoor area with yard games! Pretty unique! The wings were worth every penny, didn't need any ranch or any extra sauce in my opinion. One of the best wings I've had! The sandwich was also very tasty, wish it would of came with fries instead of being extra but oh well it's only money

I am a long time vegetarian, I have tried a lot of different places and since I was visiting Kansas City I wanted to try and have a vegetarian barbecue experience and decided to try Char Bar. We got the Jackknife, pig-tail mac N cheese, jalapeño corn, the burnt pudding, and grilled pimento cheese. Everything was really delicious, the mac N cheese was a little bland for my taste but still pretty good! We ordered take out but the customer service was phenomenal and the food was prepared fairly quickly. I would definitely check this place out if you are a vegetarian looking for unique and hearty menu.

The food was extremely tasty. I'm from the south and can get picky about my BBQ but this place did not disappoint. I shared a platter with friends and it provided enough food to feed 4 satisfactorily.

Slightly above average bbq joint. Decent service. I do like that they stay open late, that is a huge plus for me. Don’t try the cheesy hush puppies. Bbq is good. I’ll give it 7 out of 10 stars.

This is my second time at Char bar. First time was definitely better than this but not great. Today I had incredibly slow service and they weren’t busy. I had to ask other servers for straws, refills, a box etc because I’d ask my server and she’d never come back or she’d forget. Food was mediocre at best and came out barely luke warm.

Amazing food, delicious cocktails and the bartender was really helpful and friendly.

WOW!!! We just had lunch with friends and we were blown away. Hush puppies for an appetizer was a great way to start our meal. The Burnt Heaven sandwich and the Triple Crown sandwich were incredible. The combination of meats and flavors made these sandwich’s unique. An unforgettable meal, we’ll be back soon and often.

I like the interior space they’ve done a cool job of making it restro but also modern, its nice. The food is very good im never ever disappointed, good quality bbq options, the cold smoke options are really interesting, and lots of varieties of beers.

This one has been on our list since Michael Symon featured it on the Food Network. We dropped by at 6:30 on a Wednesday evening, and were finally seated about 45 minutes later. The restaurant was bustling, but there were many empty tables, which suggests that the wait was due to staffing issues. Service was poor. Our server could not answer basic questions about the menu, forgot our drinks order, and did not replace the used appetizer plates (saucers) with new plates for the dinner course (when we received more saucer plates). Paying in cash, we had to track him down to get our change, and then send him off a second time to supply us with a receipt. The food was dramatically hit and miss. We started with cheesy hushpuppies, which are superb. The jalapeno jam really makes this dish, and in tandem with the chive butter, it also turns the cornbread muffins (dry and borderline stale in and of themselves) into a second winner. For the main, we ordered the Holy Trinity (ribs, brisket, burnt ends), with a side of jo-jo potatoes. Both the ribs and the potatoes were so heavily salted that one could taste nothing else. People on a salt restricted diet should treat both with caution. The brisket was sliced paper thin, came sauced, and in contrast to the ribs, was devoid of seasoning-- and devoid of flavor. The burnt ends were similarly bland. Both needed saucing at the table, with the sweeter sauce the better call. In sum, for us this was strictly a one and done experience.
