First time eating here and it was really good. I had the grilled cheese trio with fries and my husband had the tenderloin. We tried the Tom Sawyer lemonade and it was delicious! Loved all the sports memorabilia. We will definitely need back. Glad Jefferson's ignored us so we walked out and came here!
As a restaurant, Chappell's is fine. Our server was really nice and tended to all our needs. The food was a mix of good to ok, with typical bar food cooked as it should be but otherwise unremarkable, and a large variety of entrees and some intriguing daily specials. Tried the Chipotle Salmon from the regular menu, and the fish was cooked just right but the aioli made it too greasy and the additional toppings were very mild. No regrets, but I'd modify or change my order next time. The drinks were fine.As a place, packed with sports history and somewhat of a historic landmark in its own right, Chappell's was probably quite an attraction in its hay day. Visiting recently on a Saturday evening, this expansive labyrinth of space felt like it was yearning for crowds of visitors and regulars to arrive, but instead it was just a handful of us. There's plenty of room for big groups, and it connects to a covered outdoor corridor too. I enjoyed wandering around (wasn't too difficult/awkward for me to poke around since there weren't many guests at the time) looking at all the sports photos and memorabilia from across KC, the Midwest, and the nation, spotlighting a mix of pro, college, high school, etc. Even found a couple pennants from my own alma mater! On an equally cheeky and depressing note, there was a ton of women's athletic memorabilia … in the women's restroom (would have been cool to see it displayed more prominently in the main areas for all to see). Overall Chappell's has it's own blast-from-the-past charm, and I hope the restaurant gets to enjoy a bustling revival some day.
This is a nice little spot to go and hangout and get a drink or a bite to eat. The build your own Mac and cheese is a must try. The house salad is iceberg lettuce and the one that I received... Well the lettuce looked old and dead, my waiter took it off with no issues.
A classic spot with very good quality diner food. Pretty much can't go wrong with anything. Great service, great selection, and all the sports memorabilia contributes to a great atmosphere. This place remains a regular for me
Go in on a weekday and have some lunch. Sit at the bar, and if she has time, chat with Carrie - she's probably the best daytime bartender in the metro. And make sure you overtip because the daytime people who work in bars are the ones who work the hardest while at the same time being invested in the lives of their customers. They deserve a hell of a lot more money and appreciation than they get.If there are no seats at the bar, the wait staff seemed pretty awesome, too...I just like sitting at the bar. It's a former bartender thaing.
we have gone to Chappell's for many years and enjoyed the location, the atmosphere and the food. It seems lately it is just not the same. The food is ok, and used to be something we craved and now its just a place to fill our hunger if its close by. Every person in our family has a favorite that we hope Chappell's will take heart and put the passion back into what they do.
HIDDEN GEM - must see for sports fans and especially visitors to KC... it's amazing. They have a crazy amount of awesome memorabilia (literally the whole place is covered wall to wall and including the ceilings), friendly staff, great atmosphere.
Sat in a nice room in back and could not keep my eyes off everything. Lots of history in that business. Food was fine also!
Chappels is one of Kansas City‘s little hidden gems that you must check out. First of all the sports memorabilia rivals any museum in the nation, the collection is amazing! Equally amazing is the food Chef Oscar creates. This isn’t your typical sports bar food (although they have that, too, if that’s what you’re looking for); but some of the tastiest offerings that rivals what you would expect from a fancy restaurant. (Hint: Try the salmon!!) The serving staff is also awesome! And, oh yeah, a cute manager who always wears a bow tie. I just cannot say enough great things about this one-of-a-kind restaurant!
Diner feel with amazing memorabilia.Felt like lunch and a show.Food was surprisingly delicious and the staff was very nice.Veggie burger was good and Mac n cheese was delicious.
