Food, atmosphere were very good, service at times was a bit of a issue(though our server was very pleasant) I would like to think maybe everyone has a off day, or was just overwhelmed at the moment? We had olive & cheese app, it was awesome. The main courses we has were chicken parm(wonderful), I had a pasta(angel hair) & chicken the description of the sauce wasn't what I was expecting(I wanted more of a Mediterranean style, but it was good. The side salad was very good. We both took home extra we couldn't eat (that is very rare for me. Over all a good experience, will go back.Darrell C
Don't let the exterior fool you, Anthony's is AMAZING! The fresh-baked bread was an amazing opener, especially with Jazz (a mix of olive oil, parmesan cheese, and spices.) My friend tried the sangria made in house and really enjoyed it.All three of us got salads with our entrees and enjoyed them. It's a mix of spring greens with a choice of Italian or ranch, and they bring Parmesan to the table. Our meals were fantastically cooked and spiced. I honestly can't say enough nice things about them food and the staff.
Anthony's stayed open through Covid and is open for business serving the best Sicilian, Italian food in the Kansas City Mo area. They have been in business since 1978 and before that they owned The Soup House that stood in the same location that operated in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Same Italian family. Same great Italian food. This is where you go to be treated like family. No other Italian Restaurant can offer what they do. If you want that old time feel with great service and authentic Italian food made with decades old Italian recipes this is for you.
Incredible experience! Ordered through Menufy option, order was completely correct (even with modifications) portion sizes were fabulous and large for a to go order you never know if they will be smaller then dine in. They were very generous. Delicious, wrapped so well and delivered right to the hotel when they stated it would be delivered. Great communication. 10 out of 10 experience after a super long snowy day!
Gave 2 instead of 1 star just because the food could be good...but we'll never know because we won't be back. We'd decided to check out Kansas city's Italian restaurants over the next 6 months or so. We stopped in here to check the place out by having a quick drink at the bar before heading to our reservation elsewhere, but as soon as the bartender heard our response that we were just there for a drink and not dinner we were literally ignored by him and the female bartender for the next 10 minutes while they took care of new people who arrived and decided to eat at the bar. Seriously? We actually waited 9 and 1/2 minutes before we got our beer and cocktail. The atmosphere/ambiance was uninteresting and not what I would have expected given the character of the little spot from the outside. We'd already been to Garozzo's last month.. and headed to V's this night and had fantastic experiences at both. We're going to hit that other Italian place just down highway 40 a bit from V's in Independence next time.
Fantastic gem of Kansas City for authentic Italian. They always have great food and service. They also do everything they can to accommodate large parties at the last minute (us)!
Great dinner, loved the lasagna. Authentic Italian place in Kansas City.
No disrespect intended just an opinion based on my taste. I ordered the lasagna with meatball. The Salas was delicious and you could tell the dressing was made in house. The sauce for the lasagna however was very sweet like horribly so. The only flavor I got was sweet it was very off putting and I would never put that in my mouth again intentionally. The service was excellent and super friendly.
Anthony's has not been the same since Covid. Since this used to be one of our favorite restaurants, we decided to give them a 2nd chance and made a reservation for NYE before a night on the town. We were told they had no tables sooner than 7:30 and when we arrived, the front dining room had multiple empty tables. Even with a reservation, dressed to the nines, they led us back to the back room and attempted to seat us there until I said something. What was that all about? Our waiter that evening was totally dropping the ball. I understand getting good help now is hard but seriously... my boyfriend ordered a drink and asked for 2 limes with it. They could not make the drink I ordered so I asked if they could do a lemoncello martini. His drink came with no limes, I received straight liquor in a martini glass that was undrinkable. When we finally got our waiter and asked for the missing limes, he said, "I didn't know you wanted them for your drink." What?! I reordered another drink , and Italian Margarita and they brought it to me in a Budweiser glass with a straw like I was dining in a pool hall. The limes never came so we stopped a bus boy and asked him to help. He was fabulous. We ordered an appetizer that never came and our dinner was not what we would typically expect from here. They have scaled down the menu considerably and the options are slim. There is no angel hair option as a side, only linguine. Terrible. I ordered the lemon chicken and they brought my side of linguine heavily sauced with sugo... First, you do not serve a side of red sauce with a dish that is a butter or cream sauce. Second, what did you do to the sugo? It now is so sickeningly sweet it tastes like Chef Boyardee. Lastly, there was a rowdy group at the bar that keep cheering at every person who walked in the entire time we were there. It was disruptive and got old fast as we came to dine at a restaurant, not a pool hall. What happened to this place? We miss the old Anthony's.
This place has gone so down hill over the years. You'd think they would come to their senses over the years but people continue to flow in because of the "reputation". A salad here is lettuce drenched in dressing with ZERO toppings. Appetizer's are literally ALL frozen and fried. Nothing is original or fresh... Food is okay BUT not restaurant worthy. I am very confused by the reviews posted recommending Anthonys; you all need to broaden your palate and try other Italian.
