I enjoyed our dinner on the patio of this rather oddly modern restaurant that doesn't really fit the former KC Ritz Carlton's decor at all. During Covid, we wanted to dine outdoors so the patio was great. The seating was a bit haphazard but we didn't mind. We had a friendly waiter and the food was certainly good enough. But what was really weird is the large pool and spa we were overlooking was drained and uncovered. Apparently, it's only full of water from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The rest of the year it looks like a skateboard park at an abandoned building. Just odd. If you could see past that, there was a nice view across the river to Country Club Plaza.

This was a very, very nice hotel. Clean, spacious and very well decorated.. having said that there were a few less than ideal things :The layout was rather confusing at first, so if you are attending a conference here like I was, the layout can take some getting used to. Also, the credit card machines at the bar went out as well as the hotel wifi (affected the entire Kansas City area) so not much to be done there , I'm just stating facts. Lastly, there was no gift shop or anything to buy Ibrpofin or Tylenol. So I had to walk a ways to get to a store for those items. Four stars out of five

Price is very expensive for such a mediocre quality of food ,waiter tried to be friendly turned to be the opposite when he asked some very personal questions me and my wife , never been offered refill for my coke while i was having dinner none of us got to be asked about anything while eating ,food was mediocre small portion and overpriced for no reason .....had a diarrhea after leaving the restaurant don't go over there!

Lamb kofta with couscous was prepared nicely and was tasty. Tomato soup was very good. Casual atmosphere with a mix of burgers, sandwiches and a handful of entries.

Just beautiful. Everyone was fantastic. Wish I had more than one evening

Our food and drink was extremely overpriced. My food was room temperature, not hot. My Reuben sandwich was lukewarm and hard. The fries were lukewarm and very hard, like they had been in a warmer. I will not eat there again during our stay.

Disappointing service, disappointing food, hefty price tag!I ate at American Slang twice, once for breakfast, and once for dinner. The drinks I had at dinner were expensive and poor/mediocre, their smokey martini tasted mostly of vodka. It was supposed to have Artbeg scotch in it, but it only had a splash of it on top which was gone with the first sip. The rest of the martini was vodka and a couple stray ice cubes that passed through the strainer. We ordered another drink with rosemary and it was OK. The chicken we ordered was so overcooked and dry that it was actually difficult to eat, and the steamed green beans were probably the best part of the meal. The grilled salmon was overcharred and overcooked to the point of being slightly rubbery and bitter. The baked mushroom and Yukon mash was OK. The green beans and fingerling potatoes were fine but nothing special. We had breakfast and got a KC omelette and a KC breakfast. Here the food was mediocre/good, but slightly overpriced as expected of a hotel breakfast. The service, however, was bad. Despite not having a lot of customers, we had to struggle to get the attention of the wait staff. Common requests such as creamer/milk for coffee was initiated by us and no forethought was given by the wait staff. None of that is absolutely deal breaking, but it is not worth the price with so many better options nearby. There are better restaurants across the street, with a 5 min walking time, that have wonderful drinks for dinner and are even cheaper than American Slang. If you need to grab a bite and are staying at the hotel, try to take a walk around before eating at American Slang.

We enjoyed breakfast at American Slang during our stay at the Intercontinental. We stay on the Concierge level and there is no longer breakfast for those guests on the weekend. Our food was good; we felt sorry for staff as there was one cook (waiter said) and only 2 servers. The waiters did a great job in the full restaurant.

Had the cobb salad. It was wonderful. The price was high in my opinion but it is a hotel restaurant on the KC plaza.

American slang is the restaurant at the Intercontinental hotel in KC. Recently we had a great experience that protends well for the future of the restaurant and the hotel. Last Sunday there was a pounding rain. As a result, many hotel guests got breakfast at the hotel rather than venturing out. There is no way anyone could have predicted the large number of people coming down at the same time. They were understandably very short staffed. The server Adam and the rest of the crew did an amazing job handling the crush. It was very impressive to see the new General Manager of the hotel leave his office and come to help clear tables. He was wiping things down and clearing up in his suit. This teamwork and positive attitude was refreshing. Great work.James and Sam
