Consistently Excellent! My mother & I frequent this cafe every other month. We are never disappointed in the food or service. I realized that I’ve never spent the time to rate this place. Whether we choose a menu item or daily special, we love, love, love it!I love the coconut chicken, chicken salad sandwich, chicken Alfredo (must have the grilled onions on top), grilled shrimp, and more.
My wife and I stopped by for a late lunch on Saturday. We still had to wait 25 or 30 minute to be seated. It was of course worth every minute. Service was top notch as was our lunch. If you need a reminder why this is the number one restaurant in Joplin you plan a visit soon. We are lucky to have the establishment in our city.
Staff considerate, helpful in deciding what I'd like. The wait wasn't long, we ordered and it seemed like about 10-15 minutes, and it was served! Now, the food was AMAZING!!! I ordered the grilled salmon, which was perfection! It had a sweet maple glaze on it. The veggies were mushrooms, zucchini, onions and red peppers. So good! And my salad was even amazing! The house dressing is a sweet vinaigrette which was very distinct, I've never experienced that flavor before. Then we ordered dessert to go. The Italian cream cake is, honestly, THE BEST CAKE I'VE EVER HAD! NO JOKE! You will not be disappointed!
OMG!!! I need this cafe in my town!!! The dood was superb! The wait staff awesome!! I would be there every day if it was local to me. I had the Coconut Chicken dinner. The breaded was light and crunchy! Perfection. The strawberry cheesecake was so creamy and rich. Divine!
We are not from the area and decided to try Red Onion Cafe based on the high reviews. We are so glad we did!! The food and service was excellent. We will definitely be back when in the Joplin area.
Great atmosphere and the food was amazing! Had the Bourbon glazed pork chop lunch special. Sooooo good!
We enjoyed this great Cafe! Our server was sweet but a little stretched. She didn't seem to really know about items on the menu or offer suggestions when we asked. The salad was great. The house made chips were good. The burger was a little above average and the salmon was a little above average. It was all good but not great other than the salad and the dressings. Definitely make a reservation if you can.

Excellent food and atmosphere. The pork chops were good. But the burgers were the best entry on the menu. Be sure to try the homemade chips and save room for the carrot cake for desert. You will not be disappointed!
Passing through Joplin and came across their listing. We arrived and were greeted promptly and immediately seated. Our waitress was a very attentive waitress. An older lady with a wonderful smile that took great care of us. We never had to ask for anything! She recommended the stuffed mushrooms and they were great!! Then we both had the nightly special Alfredo pasta and grilled shrimp. All was very good. Glad we found the Red Onion. We will stop here again when passing through!!
