First time going to HiBoy. Got a couple shakes. Service and shakes were great! Service pretty fast!!! Peanutbutter Fudge shakes are amazing!! A must try!

We love coming here but wish there was some better customer service around accommodating paying customers. There is not consistency among the 24hwy location and 291 location, and being told we CANNOT pay EXTRA to have a limeade or shake with a kids meal seems a bit off..?
I stopped to get lunch before visiting a friend in Independence. I like the burgers better than the chain fast food fare at mickey D's, burger king or hardees. I have always favored the handful of burger places, most family owned and operated that are around the KC area. I am certainly willing to pay a couple dollars more for a meal to get tasty food that isn't made by machines and cooked by clueless human bot replacements. I get it that this is a place with good food, but I can get a comparable meal deal at Big Boy or Paul's for a full $2 less than here. A Double cheese burger and large tot (no drink) cost me $13 and change. I can get the same at Paul's, with a drink, for $11. Compare that to the price of a meal deal with mickie D's at about $9, and it starts to look pretty high priced. The burger was heavily overcooked on the outside edge but tasty. Tots were OK. People that work there are nice and actually do the worked of the entire process, instead of requiring you operate a clunky kiosk and count your own change.
The food was amazing as always!!! The staff on the other hand...not so much. They messed up my order and when I drove back to get it fixed the staff were very rude. What I'm assuming was the entire (5 or 6 people) congregated at the window and we're belligerent. They demanded my receipt (which I wasn't given) and started raising their voices at me. When I said I didn't want to argue and wanted to just pay again for what I already had paid for the rudeness didn't stop. I paid again and they shut the window and began bad mouthing my wife and I because they thought we couldn't hear them. I live out of town but I'm an independence native and grew up eating HiBoys. I try to stop by whenever I'm in town but never at this location again. I will be going to the 24 highway location from now on. I have never received bad service or bad food at that location in over 35 years.The food gets 5 stars as always the service and the staff get 0 stars.
The food quality was insanely mundane. The burgers were flattened and dry, the fries were barely even warm. I ordered mozzarella sticks and to go with the mediocrity of them they gave me cold, congealed marinara. For two meals it was nearly $35! Overhyped, underwhelming, and ridiculously expensive for the quality.
If you get nothing else from here, I would HIGHLY suggest the onion rings (buy two if you *really* like onion rings. I'm serious.) And their red cream soda!! They're to die for!HiBoy has been a very important staple for my childhood and before you immediately think negatively, it's pretty far from where I live so I would only get it once a year with my grandmother and my mom, after visiting the cemetery on Memorial Day. So I may a little biased but it was good then, it's good now. It's definitely worth the drive to me. ❣??
Very good food. Onion rings were great! Not a disappoint and worth trying if you are looking for a new fast food experience.
