Went with a friend to Gates Bar-B-Q for lunch today. We got the all beef Nooner lunch special. SO GOOD! 10 out of 10 would recommend. 3 out of 5 stars. Wouldn't change a thing. #HailNimrod
Gates Bar-B-Q is by far one of the greatest barbecue establishments out there. As a beef brisket connoisseur, I must say that Gates has put together a bold flavor and consistent product in terms of cooking time and overall temperature. When you request lean portions with minimal fat, they come through with those specifications. The portion sizes are more than ideal, so the customer does not feel cheated or experience buyer's remorse. The wait times can be a bit on the less than ideal side, but when your food has been procured and you dig in, it is more than worth the wait. Hope they keep up their standards as far as flavor and adhering to customer specifications are concerned. If so, then they have gained a lifelong customer. So if you are seeking barbecue that not only satisfies the senses, but also nourishes the soul, then look no further than Gates.
Gates is a spot I was satisfied with. Customer service is wonderful the staff is hilarious and fun. As for the food this won't be for everyone, gates sauce is Sriracha based which is fine if you like Sriracha. They do have a sweet and mild sauce that I didn't try, maybe that would make it better. Overall it was fine food with fun people. I say give it a shot.
I really like Gates bbq, but I am frustrated they gave me a burnt slap of ribs this trip at $29.95 Unfortunately I didn't ask for a show this time regretful money down the drain. A widow retired woman.
It was great and delicious even though the sauce was a bit spicy. Their staff was great especially some lady who worked there who was talking to my one year old. He absolutely LOVED here. She made him laugh a lot.
Been going to this place regularly. For 25 years. The food has always been very good. Until the pandemic. They've taken my favorite meal Beef and a half off the menu. And substitute a new beef and a half that's smaller but they are going to bring the original one back after things get better. Prices have not gone up as much as other places. Would still recommend
Definitely was not good. Some of my ribs were pretty burnt. Definitely making it very hard to chew. Unfortunately they ran out of the meat that I wanted. Wind up having to go to another one. Almost got that order wrong until I corrected it. Still a good place to eat. Just looking at this as a hopefully limited bad experience
We ate lunch here while driving from Kansas City to St. Louis. Good food -- it's a busy place, so there may be a line when you go. The staff keeps the line moving and is friendly. I liked it.
I work in a business with a lot of interaction with out of town people. I have frequently recommended Gates, and the one close to the ballpark. Today I ordered two beef on bun and requested crispy fries and waited. When I got in the car I grabbed a fry....cold, not good.... definitely not fresh....not sure where the ones I waited for went. Disappointed with both the product and the service. I will not refer people to this spot again.
Gates has always been a favorite of ours, and now that the pandemic has slowed way down it's nice to eat at a sit-down restaurant. Gates has everything you could want or need when it comes to BBQ. We always get our fill at Gates, with some to take home as well. The President is a beast of a meal to feed 7-8 people.
