First I'd like to start saying that for a bit over a year I've been coming to this place almost every week and ordered the same thing, I have never had a reason to be disappointed. However the last time I came here the gentleman that was my server made my experience horrible. We did not get a cup of water, I had to ask for it, and when making my order I was rushed. Either way I placed a order for combination 26 (Rice, beans, 1 burrito and 1 enchilada) and like the previous +15 times before I kindly asked to get the enchilada replaced for another burrito. He then proceeded to tell me that was not possible, I argued that it was possible all the numerous times before, he then said it would cost extra, which would be fine for a small substitution fee. My boyfriend then went to place his order, combination 10, the server not once asked him what type of taco he wanted, soft or hard shell, chicken or beef, therefore when told it would be soft shell he tried saying it was complicated. All I got was that he did not want to take time to make sure we ordered the food we wanted and were satisfied. Meal proceeded, it was brought to the table something that was not a combination 26 which is what I ordered, and the margaritas where also incorrect. The time to pay the check came and when I pointed out that it was charged rice, beans and 2 burritos separate instead of a combination 26, the server said it was what I ordered. I tried to explain that it was not, I asked for a substitution not a "a la carte" meal, he ignored and told my boyfriend he did not wanted to speak with me to solve the issue. I have never seen such unprofessional behavior and as a frequent customer I expected a better treatment instead of being disrespected the way I was. No need to say but I will not be recommending this place to anyone, the food is great, but unless you want to be disrespected and rushed, do not go there.
I gave them a one star because I couldn't give them any less. The Marguerita/Jumbo one comes in a "to go" plastic cup which I thought was weird and it is mostly sweet & sour mix. The food overall is at best mediocre and bland. I asked the waitress to make the Chicken Fajita's well done and they were not at all. Then, she brought me the bill on a waitress guest check ticket which is very dated and old fashioned. I paid cash and then asked for a printed receipt and she said that she would get me one. We waited 15 minutes and she just ignored us. My husband chased her down and she turned her back on him and another waitress asked what the trouble was and we told her that we merely wanted a printed receipt for business expenses and she said that if you pay cash, you do not get a printed receipt and must pay by credit/debit card to get a receipt. Um, really??? We haven't heard of this before. Nevertheless, we will not be coming back to this very unprofessional restaurant ever again!
Chose this restaurant for Mother's Day. It was our first time visiting. The food was delicious! Lo siento derramado la aqua.
As a Colorado native, I'm very picky about Mexican food. We chose this restaurant based on the pictures, since we're from out of town and we got very lucky! The food was hot and fresh, with excellent sauces. The tamales, burritos, meats, rice, and beans were all perfect. Wish these guys were in my state.
Great service and great food. We celebrated a birthday, the staff caught wind then sang and gave a shot to the birthday girl.
This is our #1 favorite Mexican restaurants! Family owned and ran. The take pride in the facilities and their food. Always delicious served with courtesy and smiles ( we can tell even through the masks)!! Please take the time to visit and enjoy
Quesadilla special was delicious! We had a party of 9, they quickly put tables together for us and we were served immediately. Food didn't take long to receive from the kitchen. Food seemed fresh and tasty, huge portions. Bottomless chips and salsa. Would def go back.
Just had a wonderful dinner. Great food and great staff. Will return.
El Troquero is as wonderful as it is unique. The theme for the restaurant (trucks) is so neat and different! The food was incredible, and the service was great! They have a huge menu to choose from, and the chili Verde was on the spot. Want a unique Mexican beer, just ask, and they will provide. I have tried numerous Mexican restaurants in STL and this is among the best if you want great Mexican food!!
