Had a wonderful catered dinner for 36 at On the Mississippi Restaurant in Vicksburg, Mississippi. As a tour guide for Astro Travel in Tallahassee on the return from our trip to Branson, I had booked a restaurant for dinner while in Vicksburg for the evening. Unfortunately they went out of business, so I needed to find another location for dinner. On the web, I found On The Mississippi Restaurant & Catering, which stated they did not serve evening meals. However, since they also catered I sent them an email to ask if they could provide our evening meal. From the time James Dillard answered my email and phone call I had no doubt in my mind he would give us a night to remember. James and staff met us at the door, had the room beautifully decorated for the Christmas season and began to serve salads, beverages, wonderful melt in your mouth roast beef, baked chicken, a variety of vegetables and delicious strawberry shortcake in a very prompt manner. While planning for a group Dinner, this place, although usually closed at the time we needed, opened up for us as a way of getting their name out. Leary of doing this as I plan based on know quantity, we went for it. DEFINITELY not disappointed. The decor is very plain in an unremakable section of town. The Food and quality of service more than made up for that and has put this on my list of must go to's again. The dinner served was Slow Roasted Beef and A chicken dish that left me wanting more. Salad was fresh and crisp. The Mac&Cheese was unreal and so Creamy and quite simply brought me back to Childhood. Mashed Potato's OUTSTANDING and the Desert was absolutely perfect. Yes I know I overdid the sides but I was tasting for this and Groups. Well worth the look and Definitely worth the stop. Chef James and his staff will make you feel as though you were in His home and having a Sunday Dinner
