Wow, what a find! My wife & I were in town to visit the Elvis attractions and see the historic downtown area. Although it is located in an alley, we found it easily. There is curbside angle-parking at one end of the alley & a lot at the other end. We took seats at the bar and quickly made friends with Drew our Bartender and a few of the locals seated nearby. My wife chose & enjoyed the catfish basket. I ordered and enjoyed a daily lunch special. Great folks, great atmosphere!
We will NEVER return. The vibe is it's the local drunks hangout and they don't like outsiders. When we first moved to Tupelo we tried this place a couple of times, we liked the alley location and the food was fair. We excused the spotty service, and the stinky, dirty alley area eating space. But after a couple "not so good" experiences we stopped going.During Pandemic we returned to try it again. They only had take out, limited menu and one server. Not a great experience, but Pandemic. So this past weekend during Art & Wine Festival 2022 we noticed it was fully open and thought we'd give it another try.We expected it to be busy and expected a wait, but we could browse the Festival and return if we could just get on a list. All tables were full, but maybe there is a table that will be leaving soon?We stood in the doorway for about 7 to 10 minutes while the bartender didn't bother to look up or speak, and the short, dark haired waitress went back and forth.CLEARLY you can see someone is waiting! You are supposed to be in the "Service" industry. But no one greeted us or stopped to tell us how long a wait might be.My husband went outside a couple times to see if he could catch a server, to no avail. As the short, dark haired unfriendly waitress with the "mad-at-the-world-for-her-station-in-life" grimace on her face passed again, I raised my hand to ask her if there were a list we could be added to...to which she turned and shot me a nasty glare and shook her head NO and kept walking!I hadn't even spoke a word yet. She didn't know who we were, what we wanted, she just showed her ugliest face and shook her head NO.WE WILL NEVER RETURN. WE WILL NEVER BRING OUR OUT OF TOWN GUESTS HERE. WE WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.I regret I didn't take pictures of the filthy alley, dirty un-bussed tables stacked high with dirty dishes, the trash in the alleyway, the swarming of the flies. And you can't photograph THAT SMELL!There is no business too busy or too big to fail. There are plenty of options for spending our money and more restaurants coming to town! They may retain there "we drink here every day, all day and proud of it" crowd, but we'll be spending our money elsewhere.I DO NOT RECOMMEND this business. One star because it does not have a MINUS 5 stars rating.
We stumbled upon The Stables by accident when another restaurant we were going to weren't serving catfish. We were very happy to discover it because we had a great meal. We both ordered the catfish with fries and the fish and fries were cooked perfectly. The fish had the right amount of crunch while the fries were hot and crispy. The hush puppies and slaw were good too. The service was great and we liked the atmosphere. We couldn't believe we had been in Tupelo for nearly 3 years and hadn't been to this hidden gem. We will definitely be back to try their burgers and chicken fingers if we can keep from ordering the fish. Give The Stables a shot if you haven't already.
The service was great and super friendly. They recommended local favorites, which did not let down. A casual environment with good drinks and a unique location. Locally recommended, we never would have found it if we hadn't asked a local shop owner.
Philly steak, chicken tenders and burger. All was good. Service was excellent. Good grade of tenders. The Philly was real “steak” not low quality tough flank cuts. The burger didn’t seem to be prefab frozen pressed like most places.
Great bar and great food. Very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Will continue to dine here for a good meal.
Hamburger was over cooked resulting in a dry tasteless burger No tomato or lettuce Declined cheese Dry bun actually burned around the edge One of the worst hamburgers I ever had
Downtown restaurants and bar. Old atmosphere. Good food and good service.
If your listing your restaurant on goggle maps, the least you can do it keep your hours updated. I showed up at 9:30 pm just to discover the restaurant was closed. Thanks for waisting my time.
The food was excellent and Belle our server was so kind and told about the Christmas parade tonight in downtown Tupelo. It was a little hard to find the entrance down the alley. Definitely worth it and we sat outside with our dog.
