There is no way you eat here and not love it. I get tired of trying new places that say they are the world's best. Gus's is the real thing.
YouTuber Wolter's World recommended this place and I was thrilled to find it by accident on a stopover in MS on our way to AK. Sadly we weren't that hungry, but didn't mind at all that the wait was quite long. As we waited I saw they had sweet tea and I'd never had it before. They give it to you in a plastic souvenir cup. It was SWEET. I mean, ridiculously so. It's Type 2 Diabetes in a glass. I drank 2 full glasses and felt a little sick later from the sugar. Later at another restaurant in the south I realized you can mix unsweetened tea with sweet tea and it turns out perfect. You can actually taste the tea, not just the sugar. Finally our food came. We had ordered the half chicken which is simply one of each piece, cuz we were curious and wanted to share and have leftovers. All dishes come with baked beans and cole slaw and both are excellent. The cole slaw was not ice cold cuz it was simply too close to the steaming hot chicken. The chicken was spicy! We didn't realize that, but it wasn't too spicy for my husband who always orders zero stars. It was so crispy, coated in the finest layer of breading (no flakes, no breading pieces) and when you bite into it it's very loud! The chicken itself had obvoiusly been made to order (hence the wait) and it was so juicy there was literally a little puddle of chicken juice that dripped onto the plate as we ate. My husband grabbed the thigh first thing, which is my favorite piece, thinking it was the breast, because it was the biggest thigh we'd ever seen. The breast was even bigger so we shared both. Although you can order indivicual pieces, I wouldn't recommend the wings because they don't hav emuch meat, as expected from a wing. I was so surprised by how good this chicken is. Our shared meal came to only 15$ (they forgot to put the tea on the bill so I tipped a lot). Definitely go to Gus's - you even get a discount for bringing your cup back! KFC is ruined for me forever.
Very spicy chicken. We couldn’t eat it because it was so spicy. Took a long time to get food, then we found it inedible.
First time dining here. Prices and meal were really good. Beats all other chicken restaurants. Chicken was really crispy and tastes good. It says it’s a spicy taste but not really. I don’t like spicy food and I liked it. Also customer was awesome. Waiter Cindy was so nice. Your lucky if you get her.
This place was excellent! Everything from the baked beans, potatoe salad, fries and last but certainly not least the CHICKIN is scrumptious! Love it, no disappointment here for me!
I bought extra on a trip through MS. Froze it and took it home(12 hr drive) in a cooler. My children were so surprised it was wonderful reheated- a real treat.
Very friendly people. The foods are great. Also very family friendly dinning areas.
