Oysters, blue plates, creole, cajun

My favorite restaurant on the planet! Come for the oysters, stay for the Cajun, come back for the cocktails and draft beer selection.

We came for “happy hour” and wound up staying for dinner—it was so good. It’s a comfortably casual place, with very good service. We had freshly-shucked oysters beautifully served on an iced platter, fried green tomatoes, and the catfish dinner. Also, exceptional list of beers. Happy hour prices are terrific, and regular prices are very moderate. Restaurant also had a very diverse, nice-looking crowd.

I have never written a review ever on Trip advisor but this experience was so disappointing I have to now. First of all, this was our first time to Saltines last night to celebrate our 32 wedding anniversary. We had heard good things and read good reviews so wanted to give it a try something new. The hostess first tried to seat us at a small table for two that was crowded between two larger groups/ tables and it was already loud and felt too crowded so before even sitting down I asked if we could move somewhere less crowded/ quieter. She placed us in the back hallway at an end table by the kitchen / so still loud and not at all private as servers were constantly walking by and people were entering the restaurant’s back entrance by our table but slightly better than the first spot she would’ve put us . We waited 10 min for our server to take our drink orders which we ordered a glass of wine each (tail end of happy hour) and we waited 20 min for her to come back and tell us they were out of the wine we selected so waited another 10 for the second option to come out . During that long wait we had plenty of time to look over the menu but still had some questions since this was our first time . So we then told our server that this was our first time to which she said she was sorry she didn’t know it was our first time, so she then gave us some recommendations and we said we needed “just another minute” and then we’d be ready…..we proceeded to wait another 10-12 min with no sign of our server anywhere. She finally showed back up looking like she came from the outside / the backdoor was in our line of sight . So we finally ordered after having debated about getting up paying for our wine and leaving . Our meal arrived relatively soon but our experience had not met one of our expectations. The atmosphere was too loud so would definitely recommend not going for a cozy date night or an intimate couple dinner. The food was mediocre. I couldn’t hide the dissatisfaction on my face so our server then knew we were not happy and offered a dessert in the house which we graciously turned down because we were just ready to leave . We rarely go out for dinner as a couple and again this was our anniversary so it was so very disappointing and to us an expensive learning experience not to try a new restaurant for a date night or celebration so sadly we will not be returning to Saltines or won’t recommend it .

Went to dinner with a friend and a wonderful meal but half way through it I bit into a fish bone, food was very nice just watch the bones now they could use some help with the dinner ware

came tonight with my friend who got a new job to celebrate. Zach and Cameron were our servers and it was honestly the best service we've ever had, and we eat out in jackson (and at Saltines) pretty frequently. The oysters were 11/10 (as usual), the cocktails were 11/10 (as usual), and the our favorite side/entree was also 11/10 (as usual). the hostess always always always has the best energy and even though we dont know her name.... im really writing this review in hopes that anyone who is unsure about it will go and eat there, along to let the owner know that these three not only deserve, but need a raise! 11/10, will continue to eat here :)

I went here on a date and it was superb. The ambiance, noise level, and lighting were perfect. Justin was our waiter and he was knowledgeable about all items on the menu and his suggestions were spot on. All of the food was incredible but the cinnamon bun cheesecake - a piece of from scratch cheesecake with a hot cinnamon roll and icing poured over it - was unbelievable delicious. I wish I had gotten there earlier as we missed some of the hotter menu items that ran out but Justin helped us pick replacements. It was also very reasonably priced (:

SCRUMPTIOUS! If you’re in the mood for good food and great socialization, Saltine’s is the place! I ordered the fried catfish with fries and hush puppies. Everything was delicious. Prices were fair. Belly was satisfied. Amen and Amen.

Nice environment. Never felt rushed. Food and drinks were good. Grits were clunky and thick rancher than creamy. Oysters and shrimp were excellent. Drink were unique. Service was slow, but friendly.

This place is amazing!!! Great food, great service. It’s located downtown in an old school. Unforgettable experience!
