Had the pot roast special lunch on Wednesday and spent the rest of the day sick with food poisoning. The food had a less than pleasant smell, but I wanted to give them a chance. About 30 minutes after finishing the meal I realized my mistake. Now the owner is complaining about the parking on the street because his/her/its business is failing. If you’re looking to be sick for the day this is the spot for you!
If you've been reading my reviews, you'll remember that the owner of Herby K in Shreveport LA, (look that one up too if you don't know it) told me about another legendary hole in the wall place in Jackson, MI. Well this is the one. Made it here a couple of days later for lunch and it was worth finding. Looks a little unloved from the outside and inside it's old school diner that's been loved for a long time. Perfect. Ordered our drinks first and they brought me out the old style Coke bottle. Can this get any better? Yes it can. We ordered the Crab Cakes, Grilled Chicken Sandwich and the Mayflower Club. The Club and the Sandwich with the side of Potato Salad were very good and very fresh. The Crab Cakes though were amazing. Very different and unique from anywhere else. They are small and topped with chopped Tomatoes and Onions, but the sauce is what makes this so good. If you like Crab at all you have to try this. Overall this is a fantastic place, great service, food, and atmosphere. A must if you like old diners. Lots of street parking too.
This one of the best seafod resturent in Jackson MS. I just stopped by on my way from liitle rock to Baton rouge. The food is authentic southern style receipe. I ordered redfish grill with soft shell crab on top it. it is really good, may be i would say the best southern style sea food i have tried. There are road side parking lot available. The inside is modertly decorated. It seemed the resuturant is very popular among the local. If some jackson i would recommes this place althoung priece might be in higher end.
Fantastic seafood each and every time I've eaten at the Mayflower. All of the selections are perfectly cooked and you can't go wrong with whatever you order. The soft shell crab, redfish, grouper, chargrilled oysters and red snapper are absolutely heavenly! Stop in for a great meal whenever you're in the mood for some fantastic seafood in the Jackson, MS area.
This place was rrecommended by our hotel and both were fabulous. The Cafe is BYO and since we were on a road trip we brought a bottle in from the car. There was no corkage fee. I started with the gumbo which was quite savory and loaded with shrimp. Then, we had house salads with the house dressing which was so good that our waitress gave uss extra to bring home. Next came the red fish and snapper which were cooked to perfection. Tartar sauce was outstnding and we some extra to take home as well. Homemade rolls as well which they wrapped up for us to make turkey sandwiches the next day. Finally, homemade coconut pie with toasted coconut on top of the whipped cream. Oh my, one of our best meals in a long time. We wished that we lived closer than a two day drive.
We went for lunch and had grilled chicken, butter beans, fried eggplant, squash and bread pudding. The food was mediocre and 35.00 including tip for a blue plate special Is a bit much for what we got. I think the restaurant has had its heyday. I went a couple of years ago for dinner and it was not very good. I would not recommend the Mayflower cafe.
Great little place to visit. Mostly for the historical aspect and the food and service was great. A bit pricey
The server was great... I wanted Seafood experience, lunch is not the time to experience it.... The redfish was tasty, Greek salad was good also...
A lot of great seafood on the menu. Fried eggplant with crabmeat, very good. Old established restaurant in downtown Jackson.
Great Service and the lunch specials are great!
