Food was fine... HOWEVER... we received a small basket of chips fairly quickly. Exactly 1 hour later we received WATER. About 5 minutes later, we received the drinks that we had ordered upon arrival of the chips. About 20 minutes later, we received dinner. No explanations. No apologies. Restau was full but not crowded. Might give it another try; might not.
This is the first time ordering here. We ordered two entrees and a large white dip to go and the total was $42 which I thought was high. The dip was good. Our chicken in the entrees was disgusting. It was so dry and had that old reheated dried out chicken taste. I called and spoke to a man who didn't care at all. He told me they cook their chicken everyday and he has lots of plates with chicken. He hung up on me. We won't be back.
We wanted to try this place after they won the best Mexican Restaurant award recently. Finally we were in the area and got the chance & it was awful! The guacamole says it's fresh made but it was brought to the table almost instantly & was a small dish of ice cold pre-made guacamole. The steak in the fajitas was very tough & the veggies were barely cooked, still crunchy. The chicken in the taco & the quesodilla was so dried out & tasted freezerburnt. We basically paid $9 for a side of rice & sour cream because we only took 2 bites of the quesadila. When we tried to explain to our server he said oh no our chicken is made fresh every morning & we have already sold several orders, basically telling us we were wrong. We frequently dine at Mexican Restaurants around the coast & this was by far the worst we have been to
Went there for a quick bite. We had nachos with ground beef. Just amazing and fresh. Will definitely go back.

Our entrees had chicken and it was so dried out and tasted old. It tasted like it was reheated in the microwave. I called to let them know because I would want to know if it was my place. The guy I spoke to on the phone was defensive and rude. He said they cook that chicken everyday, and he has a lot of chicken plates lol. Um, ok. That is what I said "ok" He then hung up on me. Terrible food and customer service. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants and we frequent El Agave often and they have you beat! That might be why your parking lot was empty. We won't be back!
What a great find. We live in Europe and have been craving real Mexican food. This is a small authentic Mexican restaurant with truly excellent food and drinks. We were a party of 6 dining on an early Saturday evening. Our waiter was fabulous and explained the intricacies of the authentic menu. The margaritas are truly excellent. The best I have had east of “Henry’s in Old Colorado City 30 years ago. No sugar mix with fabulous taste. The nachos supreme appetizer is the best I’ve ever had in my life. Everyone in our party loved their entree! If you want fancy ambiance and bad food, this place is not for you. If you want a quaint, authentic Mexican restaurant with excellent food and drinks for extremely reasonable prices with superb personal service, this is your place! Honestly, it does not get any better than El Mexicano. We are already planning our next visit.
This little gem of Gulfport has the best most authentic Mexican food you'll find. It also sells the BEST MARGARITA's on the planet, hands down, no questions asked!! You won't be disappointed. Our favorite for over 20 years now!!!!
We had ranchero burritos, every bite was divine, tried to eat slower but couldn’t. Excellent service and prices so reasonable.
We have been eating at Tony's El Mexicano restaurant for decades...off and on and not much since 2020.Dinner tonight was as good as always!The food is easily understood on the menu and unlike other places like this - there are not hundreds of options. It is a comparatively small menu filled with excellent dishes.The margherita is out of this world... large and cold.The location is easy to miss...its a small, non descriptive place...it is worth finding.Truly grateful for the years and the fun times we have had here.Give them a visit.
Good flavor, not the usual, great people, good prices. Different levels of spiciness. Was not expecting to have heartburn or indigestion. Will go again ?
