Not a negative review and yes I would recommend you try it here. It's cool on the inside/outside and the drinks are delicious. However, it is just not my type of place: it's expensive for how much you get, parking is a very tight and it's cramped inside when it's crowded. So once again this is not a negative review, I will personally not likely return unless I have a special occasion (I can see small bachelor or bachelorette groups coming here and having a chill evening in a cool environment).I will try to be thorough in describing the actual establishment and what they have to offer in my experience though. They have an outdoor smoking area and cute nooks and places to sit indoors. It's darker inside and the ambiance is on point/eclectic of you're into more of an upscale/hipster hole-in-the-wall. I didn't feel like I was in st. Paul anymore once I walked in which was kind of cool. The building itself sits on a corner-y island thing. There is bar seating as well as booths and tables.Drinks are not OUTRAGEOUSLY priced but for like a low-ball glass of whatever like, a gin and tonic it was pricier than I expected. It was tasty and if I were someone who always chose taste over alcohol content then this would be my spot lol.Overall, once again I would recommend this bar to anyone who lives in St. Paul and anyone visiting the city who is interested in a non-clubby, hipster, "craft beer-y feel" (idk if they have microbrews but I hope you get what I mean lol, it's people who like craft beers and stuff ) It's like the exact opposite of Skarda's for example lol. It's worth it to go to check it out and see if you like it.In my opinion it was inconvenient for parking, prices, seating and my goal isn't typically to sip on a nice cocktail for like an hour.Side note: They only have like 5 spots to park otherwise it is street parking. But they have a handicap spot and a ramp!
This place rocks. There's a picture of a white squirrel named Kevin. And the bartender was super nice. The cocktails were delicious. It greatly contributed to my good impression of Minneapolis.
One of the best kept secrets in St. Paul... (probably won't be for long....! haha) The prices are super reasonable with a solid selection of beers and craft cocktail menu. They have a patio shaded by tree cover in the back for those summer nights. The indoor space is cozy and intimate. They do live music on the weekends and food trucks on occasion too.
Great space with a variety of seating. Live music in the back carries well across the venue.
Outstanding little bar with so much personality and wonderful drinks. They have music most nights of the week, and have a friendly clientele and staff - I'm for sure coming back again and again. So happy with my experience at the white squirrel!!
It's a bit of a small place but people weren't rude or pushy when I was there on a Friday night and it was mostly packed. The bartenders are attentive and friendly so you don't feel like you're anywhere you're not welcome. I liked that all the beers are the same price and at $6 a beer you can't really beat that for the quality and the service as well. Well worth a shot and a visit. They sometimes have live music too which is a nice perk.
Saw my friends band play there. Very small space. Everyone is very friendly and a good vibe all around. We had a good time. Cautionary note: my debit card was attempted to be charged an additional $12 that I didn't sign for. I talked to my credit union and made attempts to contact the bar to no avail. The charge did not go through but I am leary of using a card again.
I always give this place the benefit of the doubt and they always prove me wrong. Tonight I witnessed this man pour a drink on a woman and they did nothing about it. We had to convince the bouncer to even say a word to them and they were still apprehensive. The only thing they said was “well he’s a regular” and let him stay. Absolutely ridiculous and no way to run a business and make your guests feel safe. The “bouncers” if you could even call him that were too afraid to talk to him…
Interesting place. I could have drank anything on their drink menu which is rare for me. Recommended trying the barrel mixed drinks, the one with wine and bourbon was amazing. Delta ginger drink my GF had was pretty good also.
Took in a show featuring three local musicians at this small but mighty music venue. The space is smaller than I expected and a “shotgun” shape, or long and narrow. Which causes some crowding. The shape of the space creates some challenges with getting a view of the stage and seating is limited. The sound was excellent and well balanced for the space, never too loud or sharp. The beer list is adequate and offers a range of styles. No food or food trucks around when I visited. But overall patrons were nice and eager to have a good time. I enjoyed it and will return.
