Disappointed in management. Though the food and drink were fabulous on one of the best patios in the Twin Cities. We had 2 reservations of 6 to accommodate my staff for a nice appreciation dinner and retirement announcement. When we arrived, the patio was empty and they refused to seat our two table next to each other(not pushed together, just next to each other) and actually sat us on opposite ends of the patio as well. If it were at full capacity, I would completely understand. I tried calling several times before the reservation to ensure we can get our tables together and also emailed as per their online reservations stated with ZERO responds. They never pick up their phone or answer emails. The waitstaff were fantastic and I don't mind paying the hospitality fee, but will not be returning due to poor management. Do better!!
Our first visit to the much-acclaimed patio at W. A. Frost far exceeded our expectations! We didn't have a reservation, but we were easily able to find seating on the wicker furniture by the bar. They were very busy, but we didn't mind the relaxed pace of service at all.We shared the lemon pasta, which I'm still dreaming about, as well as an order of the sourdough (which I wish had been a little less crunchy). I hope they never take that pasta off the menu! And then I had a flight of the orange wines, and my partner had a Japanese martini. Two unique drink options that we haven't seen at other local spots.I'd recommend W. A. Frost if you're looking for a fabulous patio and don't mind paying a little extra for the garden-like, intimate ambiance. I'll be back for sure!
Food was delicious. The surprise 21% fee which didn't include the tip was a surprise when the check was presented. Left a bad taste. They should be have been upfront about it.
Had a disappointing brunch last weekend.Had a 10:30am reservation which we thought was for the patio but as it turned out was booked for the dining room. This early in the morning there were only a few patio tables being utilized so we explained our mistake and asked that we sit on the patio only to be told they couldn't accommodate. This isn't the first time I've been with a party of people that have had trouble with the reservation system in distinguishing between indoor and outdoor seating. Seems like there could be some modifications with the reservation location description to better clarify. We were seated in the dining room and were the only two people in there for at least 45 minutes. The entire time, we could see the patio outside remaining nearly empty. By the time we left after about 90 minutes there were still well over half of the patio tables empty.I think these days there's an element of customer service that has gone away and been replaced with a very prescriptive form of service that doesn't bode all that well for the hospitality industry. There's certainly a way to run a business and it's understandable that many customer requests cannot be accommodated or adjusted, but in this case I think it would have been an easy tweak to make for a favorable review. The circumstance was handled poorly and, as a result, it'll be a while before I visit WA Frost again. One other note regarding the breakfast bowl and bacon...neither of them were near the quality I would expect Frost to serve.
Exceptional food, atmosphere, and service. This is one of the finest restaurants in Minnesota, a true historical treasure with ever-changing, fresh interpretations of American classics. We ordered the lemon pasta and pork shoulder. Both had bold, creative flavors and were beautifully presented. Book a reservation on the patio for an elegant summer experience. You'll be glad you did!
Food great. Service great. They put on a 21% service fee to us. Just a couple for our anniversary. 21% mandatory gratuity. Been there several times. Never going back. Tipped the waitress her 20%. No one can afford that!!!
We've been to WA Frost a few times in the past. It's been a couple years - the outdoor seating area is beautiful - this is what you come for: it's beautifully landscaped and in such a idealistic setting, it's a wonderful place for a meal. The menu has changed quite a bit - they are trying to be too inventive and it didn't mesh together. Very sporadic, unusual meals - it was hard to find one that we wanted to try. The drinks were great, though. Beware: they are now adding a 20% "service charge" to pay their people more, including the back of the house, also health insurance. While this is a great idea, on our $100 bill, they added $20 for this fee. And this didn't include the tip. Just know you'll be billed an additional 20% fee regardless if you want it or not. The service, drinks and atmosphere was great, the food and service charge...not so much. We won't be back any time soon.
Great atmosphere, very friendly sraff
Really excellent food, service and atmosphere. The best restaurant I have been to in the Twin Cities. The food was simple and perfect, yet each item had some creative personal touch that made it stand out. The cheesecake for instance was perfect by itself, but was served with a slightly spicy pepper sauce which sounds strange until you try it. Very unique and delicious. The waiter seemed like a budding sommelier and gave a knowledgeable wine suggestion. Great experience.
What a find! The bar is beautiful when you walk in, but you truly can't appreciate the size until you take the stair underground. The basement is huge, with several side rooms you can get privacy in with your group. What a fun place to get a few drinks at. Be sure to check out how beautiful the feeling is both bar level and in the basement, or should we call it a speak easy!
