I went here with a few work colleagues to end the night. The AC in this place was perfect after a hot day of being outside. It definitely struck me as a more unfussy bar and restaurant as mentioned in their description. This gives it a nice and laid back atmosphere as well. The employee taking orders and cooking was respectful and a great server too. We had accidentally walked in here earlier in the day and it was pretty busy, but it had calmed down later in the day which made for easy seating.I had never had a coney dog before and I almost never eat hot dogs, but I figured that I should try something new atleast once. I turned out to be really pleased with the cheese coney dog that this place serves up. There were a couple things that really made this delicious. First off, the bun. They don't use a basic hot dog bun which can tend to fall apart or not hold enough toppings. Instead, they use this thicker bun that toasted up perfectly on the grill top. It also pulls in some flavors from the butter or oil it is being toasted in. They make their meat sauce in house which was also fantastic. I believe the server said the hot dog is something they get ordered for the restaurant as well. It didn't taste like a regular boring hotdog. It had a totally different taste and texture to it. The tanginess from the mustard and onions adds an element to the coney dog that balances everything out, and it made for a harmonius bite each time. I was glad that a couple colleagues introduced me to this place, and I would definitely recommend it to others.
Walked to Gopher Bar from our hotel to have a couple cocktails after just arriving in town. I can only assume neither one of the male bartenders were the owner as they both were extremely rude. My wife and I were sitting at the bar, yet both bartenders would walk by our empty glasses sitting on the well without acknowledging us. They were too busy entertaining their friends at the other end of the bar to take time to serve us. This the first time in my adult life I've ever left a bar without leaving a tip. We will never go back there when we come to the twin cities. If you are considering visiting this establishment I would strongly encourage you to go some place else.
Classic, though it is just not the same without George smoking behind the bar and insulting the customers.Coneys were as great as always. Our waitress was a pro.Bring cash, no cards accepted....
Outstanding bar. They have good cold beer on tap and delicious coney's. What an amazing setting and staff. We loved it. Cash only! No...credit cards!!!
Small bar with big attitude- in a good way! The coneys are amazing and egg rolls are hand-made from scratch! Jamie is an awesome chef and somehow manages to wait tables as well. Also did I mention the super affordable prices? Average 10 bucks per person.
I hadn't been to the Gogher in years. It was the same. Time stood still and that's a good thing. The Coneys are still the best I've had. Cheap prices and great food. Bring cash, no credit cards.
I went here years and years ago with a girlfriend and I was pretty drunk but I remember getting the coney dogs and I was obsessed! I’ve thought about those hot dogs for the past years (I don’t make it to the cities often) and have been craving them. My husband and my 2 little girls went in there for lunch and got the coney dogs, large fry and some ravioli. The server advised that a large fry would be plenty for the whole table and boy was he right. The staff was very sweet and attentive to us. My husband was worried taking a 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 year old into a “dive bar” but after we left he was very happy we went. Great food and great staff.
My friends and I stopped in for a drink and a bite out menu. A sports bar with an attitude...drinks were mediocre...staff weren't real friendly but not rude either... their famous Coney dog...not so famous however the deep fried munchies we're good but what isn't deep fried? Lol. If u gained weight over the pandemic...you might not enjoy the tight squeeze into the tiny bathroom ugh! I didn't see any masks ... but they did have hand sanitizer available. All in all, the Gopher doesn't claim to be anything more than it is really ...watchin' the game, catchin' a lil' buzz & ordering some heartburn while having few giggles with friends.
Great coneys. No nonsense bar, no BS allowed. Great coneys. So good I ate them before I could take a picture, check it out
If you are looking for a recently remodeled bar/restaurant and white tablecloths, this ain't your place. However, if you're looking for a place that is quaint, plays Marvin Gaye and Tony Bennett, has real coney dogs perfected by a Greek family recipe, and other amazing dishes the Gopher Bar MUST be on your bucket list. The food is scratch cooking and the quality shows. The prices are reasonable, however, don't think you'll be paying by credit/debit cards as cash is the only form of accepted payment. Every time I go I usually get the same thing Coney dogs, fries and a Coke.
