This is a St. Paul institution. Incredible from scratch Italian cuisine and a welcoming and gracious staff. Carmelo's dining room is warm and inviting. Buy the bottle of wine for the value. If you don't finish it, they will cork it and you can take it home.

I live in New Orleans and am up in St Paul helping my son move in. We ate out at several places during my stay here and this was BY FAR my favorite. The caesar salad was delicious and the bread… the bread was fantastic! I had eggplant parm(which was the night’s special) and my son had chicken parm. Both meals were perfect. I can’t wait to come back to visit my son and, of course, eat here again!! Thank you.

The best Italian food I ever had

Delicious Amatriciana and super cute atmosphere. Reasonably priced for portion size. Will definitely be back.

I will always suggest Carmelo's when someone is looking for excellent Italian food, a cozy atmosphere and wonderful staff. My family has been going for about 10 years now and it is always excellent. Shelley asks after family members that aren't with us when we go in, and goes above and beyond to make sure we have a wonderful meal . It's the perfect spot for a date, or just to have a nice meal with your friends & family. Highly, highly recommend Carmelo's.

Food was mediocre and over priced. The service was bad. The server didn’t know the menu, non conversational, couldn’t recommend entrees, and they seemed annoyed that they worked there. Just bad! I would not recommend.

Absolutely hands down an amazing place to eat. I have been there a few times with my kids (one of their favorite spots) & always great food & beyond great service. I went for private event (& made my kids jealous) and as always rave reviews well deserved. So many excellent options to chose from & they're so helpful in recommending things when asked. Plan to take kids there soon!

Excellent place here in Minnesota they have wine not cocktailsI ordered the chicken piccata with clear sauceThey have good bread and for Minnesota excellent food great job Carmelo’s

All in all, a very unpleasant experience. Here is why:a. The food took forever to come out. We were seated for 45 minutes before our entrees were served.b. The server told me I could choose between the salad or soup with my entree but did not mention that the soup option is $4 extra. They simply tacked it on to the bill without explaining why.c. They snuck in an additional 5% charge without showing a separate line on the bill. If I had not done the itemized calculation, I would not have known what it is for. If it is for gratuity, why not just mention it? Seems really shifty to not tell the customer what they are being charged for.d. The pesto pasta was really bland. The pine nuts had more flavor than the rest of the dish put together. It cost $6 to add chicken to the pasta, and the chicken was just as flavorless as the pasta. The positives: nice environment, cozy seating area, and good wine selection.

Nice little upscale restaurant. Everything was delicious, but the bread they brought to our table stole the show. It was by far the best bread I have ever had. It was light, fluffy, and baked to perfection.
