Less than two blocks from a light rail station… always book any appts at the U around lunch time so I can eat here. Best chicken Greek salad, chicken fantastica is also one of my favorites. Friendly staff, clean store

Afro Deli used to be good, but now it is a place to get ripped off and given bad food. I ordered the veggie platter, and it was terrible. (It used to be good, but it is a completely different thing, now. The falafil were tiny one-inch balls, nothing like the reasonable sized ones from the photo on the website. The rice was gummy and clearly reheated leftovers, because of the way it was stuck in the little cup in a solid mass. The cucumber yogurt sauce was not flavored with any garlic or mint or salt. The hummus was just ground up chick peas and water - no lemon, no garlic, no olive oil, and no tahini. It was gross. My pita bread was stale and had a chemical odor and flavor of preservatives. And the "veggie" sambusa was nothing like the website description. It was a soggy, nasty tasting, ugly triangle of dough full of brown lentils. Afro Deli should be honest, and call it a brown lentil sambusa, rather than describing it as a delicious medley of vegetables inside the dought. Yuck. Be honest, and call it an ugly, bland, brown lentil sambusa. Obviously, all Afro Deli cares about is money, because they are serving cheap ingredients only, and leaving out anything that costs more than a few cents a serving.

So good. Vegetarian options, try the veggie fantastic!

I ordered the steak dinner for lunch today. The website says you can choose between rice and couscous, but the online ordering didn't let me choose. After I placed my order, I tried to call to request couscous instead of rice. I called about 10 times before someone finally answered. I get that you're busy but a business needs to answer their phone. She said that was fine but when I got there, she said they were out of couscous so I got rice anyway. I can't eat much rice (or very little), but I took it anyway. It was ALL rice and very little meat at all. What WAS there was really good. The rice, peppers and onions were all very tasty. It was just SO LITTLE of the meat. I was still hungry! The lady who answered my call and gave me my food was very nice. I WILL go back bc there are other things I want to try. Like I said what I got was very good. I just won't order that thing again. And hopefully they'll have couscous!

Was going in for a quick dinner before my shift but there must have been some delay- waited like 20 minutes and was admittedly a little annoyed bc now I didn’t have time to actually eat my food before I had to go, but without me even having to say anything they were very apologetic and gave me half of my order. I was able to eat part of my meal before my shift and it was very fresh and delicious. Great customer service! I get that sometimes stuff happens but not every restaurant would be that generous about it so I was very pleased.

I was looking for a different restaurant when an amazing smell full of spices distracted me. I’m so glad it did, because this place is amazing! Marinated chicken over rice with yogurt sauce and allll the vegetables, sweet potato fries, and sweet spiced Somali tea and I am the happiest punctuation mark in the world. Both the fries and the chicken and rice were enough for leftovers and the tea (full of anise and cardamom?) warmed me right up on this gray and rainy evening. Highly recommend if you’re in downtown St. Paul.

Four stars for the quality of food, menu, and friendly staff. Minus one star because for some bizarre reason, they only have one size of fountain cup and its tiny. Yet they have a state of the art fountain?! Plus they are missing out on a little extra drink size upgrade revenue.

I’m eating the yassa chicken right now and it is quite literally the best food I’ve had in my life.

We ordered two large dishes for delivery. They were normal sized, full of rice with a very small portion of curry. My first few scoops had one piece of meat. Same for my husbands beef dish - dry and mostly rice. Neither of the dishes had great flavor or spice. Want to give them the benefit of the doubt but there are other places we will return to before coming back. Maybe by other reviews try the gyros over any of the rice dishes.

Dirty floors, counters, tables and cooking area. Ordered a gyro and they put 1 tsp of cucumber sauce. I asked for more and they charged. 75. The taste of the food was gross. Definitely won't be back to that place.
