Food was awesome, service was awesome.Only issue was how long it took to get our first order of 2 signature rolls (45 minutes). After that, the third and fourth showed up within 30 minutes. We were not in a hurry, but ...
Good sushi and sashimi. Everything was fresh and delicious. The wait staff were prompt and did not make us feel rushed. Overall good local spot in Minnesota.
My husband, mother in law, and I tried this one Friday night for dinner. It was a last minute decision so we made reservations online. There is a large parking lot but several businesses share it so parking wasn’t super easy. There was still a wait to get in but we head over anyway for a pre dinner drink. We were able to order a round of drinks and sit outside while we wait. We had so many options to choose from the large menu. I was so impressed by all of the different rolls and sake variety. They had many fun cocktails which is always exciting to me!! I did the mango margarita which was as beautiful as it was tasty. I actually don’t love mango flavoring but the girls at the table next to us were raving about them so I went for it and was not disappointed. I decided to go with a hot appetizer and side of mashed potatoes. The short ribs were pretty fatty and chewy, which i didn’t enjoy as much as I’d like. The potatoes were garlic mashed and had good flavoring but were pretty dry. I will have to try the sushi rolls next time because based on toothed reviews, they sound like they are the main event!
Great restaurant recommendation I received from a client of mine! I arrived at 5:30 PM to Wakame on a Wednesday night. There was a long wait (make reservations, recommended, I didn't realize this!).As I was patiently waiting for my name to be called, the host came up and offered my client and I a spot at the bar (full menu offered). We took the seats at the bar. They were comfortable and centrally located to "the action".There is a fantastic "happy hour" of reduced price sushi and rolls prior to 6 PM. We ordered up, capturing the discounted prices, and then chatted and watched the amazing bartenders do their craft. The place was packed to the walls, even on a Wednesday night. Masks are no longer required, but I saw a few of them. The sushi came, and it was incredibly fresh and delicious. As I have visited Japan 5 times in the past, I kinda "know" good sushi/sashimi/rolls when I see and taste them. Wakame makes great sushi.I especially loved the "Bentley Roll" - I would put this roll, topped with a slice of jalapeno pepper, as "Japan meets Mexico". It was delicious and so so different tasting! It is also served with a special dipping sauce. Unique.Service was relatively prompt for freshly crafted and rolled sushi, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant I would call "electric" - lively and fun. And did I say crowded? Make reservations next time, I said to myself.I would highly recommend Wakame for the delicious and well-prepared sushi, rolls, sashimi, gyoza (I had one order of this, too), Japanese beer and sake offerings, and the overall atmosphere in the restaurant. Super fun night!! Next time, I will for sure make a reservation, and well before the 6 pm deadline for the discounted prices. And I will also have some rice and miso soup to make the night perfect! See my photos of the night.ADDENDUM: I returned with a good friend last night to Wakame. I wanted to try it out again! Still earns my 5-star rating, for sure! It wasn't as crowded as it was the first time I went here, sushi was incredible, the Bentley again lived up as my "fav" of the night, and the service was spot-on. I love the atmosphere of the place, the soft, great vibe music, and the feel of Wakame. Someday, I'll take a woman here for sure!!!
The staff was very nice and the restaurant has a good video. The White Tiger roll is the way to go! The veggie tempura is very good, as well. The rainbow roll was typical of rainbow rolls; nothing special, but not bad.The squid salad was okay; honestly, the squid tasted frozen/thawed. Yes, yes, I know, "it's the middle of MN, a land locked state", but I've definitely had fresher tasting in MN (I think from Wakame,a different time, actually). It isn't the #1 sushi in MN, but I'm the top 5. I will be back.
Chicken lettuce wraps and basil chicken wings were delicious! The chicken wraps have a lot of flavor. Fyi... make sure you have time to dine and because there will be a wait.
Great prices and great tasting food. I really love sushi and they have amazing vegetarian options and it was such a good experience. We will be coming back!!
This is easily my favorite sushi spot. The happy hour is great. And the service is always spot on!
Wakame is one of our places where we are ordering food to go once a week. It is really tasty and always fresh food. Awesome service. if you want to get food on time, it is better to order it in advance because this place is always busy. The same with indoor dining, it is better to reserve a table in advance.
This is the best sushi in all of Minneapolis! I had the escolar sashimi, the tootsie roll, the Bentley roll, and the Wakame roll. The Bentley roll had the perfect amount of spice and even came with its on specials dipping sauce. The sauce complimented the roll well. The sushi was very fresh, tasty, and the perfect temperature. I highly recommend this place if you’re in the area!
