Great experience! Food and service was top notch!
I would highly recommend Owamni! We ate family-style and tried the cedar + maple baked beans, roast sweet potato, wild rice, three sisters fritter (entree), and sunbutter bar (dessert). We appreciated the many vegan and vegetarian options. Everything was tasty, but we agreed that our favorite items were the sweet potato and three sister fritters. Our least favorite choice was the baked beans. Every dish had a beautiful presentation and nuanced flavors. The view from the tables was stunning, overlooking the Mississippi. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. We appreciated the opportunity to experience and to support local indigenous cuisine.
Our experience at Owamni was amazing! We were able to be seated right away on the patio as patio seating was first come first serve. The only drawback of patio seating is they do not serve the specials on the patio. The food was outstanding. I definitely recommend ordering a few dishes and sharing. Each dish we ordered had a unique flavour, and all the flavours worked so well together. There is a wine and beer list but also a great selection of teas to choose from. I ordered the back country iced tea and it was a perfect accompaniment to our meal. I look forward to coming back to try other menu items!
Great selection of delicious food but it was the engaging servers that really made the experience what it was, being knowledgeable about the menu items and support of the vision and philosophy of the restaurant.
Amazing food, incredibly engaging staff. We didn’t have reservations for lunch, but they were able to seat us at the bar. We will be back SOON!!
I really wanted to like Owamni, it's a great concept that has gotten high praise. But unfortunately, it does not live up to the hype. The baked beans were quite good, but the wild rice was so plain, it was as if they just boiled water and threw in the rice. Nothing else. The mushrooms in the mushroom taco had zero flavor, which shouldn't be possible no matter what you do to them. The elk sandwich was by far the highlight. So flavorful! The garden salad was absolutely inedible. It was so incredibly bitter I could barely swallow one bite. They also bring the food out as it's ready, which is usually fine, but not when every dish arrives at the same time and there is no room on the table for it. My advice, order one thing and order the next when the first comes out. The service was great, and the view was wonderful. But I won't be back.
Very authentic and tasty food. Almost impossible to make a reservation for a table unless you go there solo like myself and sit at the bar. I tried a few different menu items, mostly for tasting and experience: rabbit taco, homemade elk sausage, pulled bison with ancient grains, and preserved duck. I was misled by the staff to think that the preserved duck is a hot meal similar to a duck confit, but not even close — it is served cold with crispy corn bread, not a pleasant experience. Other than that, the other food items were fantastic. Highly recommend the pulled bison with ancient grains if you want to get only one item that is tasty and is also a large enough portion to be called a “meal”.
Honestly, I was skeptical that the food could live up to the hype, but it really did. This is an inspired concept with practically flawless execution. The dishes are original, exciting, and delicious. The location is slightly hard to find because the entrance is on Great River Road, not 1st St. Although it's on the second story, the space is extremely accessible. Service was quick and friendly; the only downside was that there were so many staff that they didn't seem to communicate well, and there was one slight mix up in our order. Portions on the regular menu are generally tapas-style, allowing you to try plenty of different dishes. The game tartare was one that really stood out for us. Absolutely make a reservation.
Our server was amazing! Portions really varied from dish to dish, even within the same course, which was a bit odd. Solid flavors. One dish made me break out in hives and made my tongue go numb, which was a new experience! We'd go again for a different seasonal menu, but wouldn't go back for spring.
Awesome experience. Innovative menu and a friendly staff. Please treat yourself.
