Even if it is expensive to come here (you must hire a 4x4 with driver and a guard) it is an amazing visit. You are in the middle of the desert, the paintings are incredibly beautiful and well preserved and you have the sight for yourself!

The history nerd in me has wanted to visit Laas Geel for awhile! My tour company Somaliland travel and tours took me here and I enjoyed every second. The historic drawings and paintings inside not one cave but many of them. I was the only one here so I had the entire place to myself!

The wall painting was amazing as it is an evidence of human intelligent and a way of communication that traced back to 5000 - 2000 BC. But the most stunning sight was the surrounding environment. The location is literally in the middle of nowhere, so it is so peaceful and quite. I actually spent more than 10 mins just to sit there to enjoy the view around me. Arm guard is required to visit outside Hargeisa. But no worries, tour agency will arrange one for you !

The murals at Laas Geel are truly exceptional. The quality and quantity of the paintings are amazing. I would recommend a driver and a guide. As stated in other reviews, the actual caves are a bit off of the main road with little to no signs. My guide helped point out and explain details of the paintings, which was very helpful and made the experience much more interactive and enjoyable. The small museum is helpful to provide more context and is worth a stop. Traveling to Laas Geel was definitely a highlight in Somaliland and I highly recommend going if you're in Hargeisa.

One of the most beautiful prehistoric sites in the world. I came there for half day just to witness and observe the Las Geel and I can say that it worths a trip to this new and unusual country.
