I believe in cycles. There’s an old saying that’s says that hard times bring good times and after being here the name makes so much sense. (I have no idea why they named it hard times) maybe, the name comes from the feelings when leaving. Either way, the only hard time I had was choosing something off the menu. Paying, eating, or enjoying were not on the hard times list.
Good portions, quality, and price. The vegan biscuits for $8 is phenomenal. Also love all the art they have for sale. Recommend.
Went to get some lunch for the first time here while visiting Minneapolis. As im sitting there I watch the person in the back cook with NO GLOVES! Then again you have to wear a mask the whole time!! Doesnt make sense to me and its super gross watching the person touch all the tomatoes and all the other foods with his bare hand! This is not an ideal place to go and trying their food right now it's super plain not even worth eating.

They were so accommodating. We’re both vegan with a soy allergy/intolerance and they went above and beyond to help with making the breakfast soy free. And it was still filling! Thank you!
It's been many years since I've been here but I have so many fond memories of the place. Best vegan b&g, best vegan muffins. Hope to visit again some day!
I ate lunch here for the first time yesterday—HIGHLY recommended!! It was out of my way and VERY worth the drive! I will be dreaming about the vegan kimchi tofu bun until I can get back here. Thank you!!
First time trying Hard Times Cafe and oh my god it was so good. I got the grilled cheese with tortilla chips and a pickle, and the salsa is incredible first of all. The grilled cheese was to die for and even the pickle was delicious. 10/10 will visit again!!!
Best vegetarian food we've had in a long time! Seitan Philly was fabulous!! Friendly staff. No credit cards. Luckily I had cash on me.
