Affordable french food. Team spirit among the wait staff. Just a consistently enjoyable place. Every time.
My first experience at Barbette most definitely will not be my last....Amazing vibe, Fresh Local flavors and a server that was hands down, on top of everything!! We loved her!!! When I'm back in Mpls, I'll be sure to be back....
Great place for a date night. For appetizers we had the beet salad, oysters and bone marrow (not a huge fan of the bone marrow). For dinner we had the braised beef. A little over cooked but still amazing!
I ordered a croque monsieur. It was so delicious! The ham was well cooked and the cheese was perfect. It came with waifer chips which tasted salty and yummy. I'd recommend Barbette for breakfast or brunch. I'll definitely be returning again!
Sunday at 7:15 PM and the place was packed. A small venue with a lot of tables, the noise level was literally deafening. The service very good, but the food? Onion soup served with two pieces of bread sticking up vertically and some cheese slices, when stirred vigorously all seemed to dissolve. Not the usual with toasted soggy baguette chunks and moulton melted cheese oozing over the soup bowl's edges. Tasty none the less after addition of some black pepper. The mainstay, "steak frites" soggy frites and call it Bavette or flank steak, the reasonably generous 6 ounce chunk of meat may well have been the toughest piece of meat I or my fellow steak diner have ever encountered. The supplied steak knife was barely able to cut it. A small hack saw would have suited it better. And the haricot vertes, al dente to the point of being uncooked. To her credit, when our server asked how things were and we related that it was our opinion that the beef was aged (the cow dying of old age) and the "steak knives" were no match, offered the two of our party of four who ordered the steak a desert on the house. Let me assure you, we would have preferred to have been able to cut the steak, to getting a free dessert.
I would recommend this place 100% if you haven't tried it. The food was amazing, we went for restaurant week and had that menu. Everything was great, we had the butternut squash curry soup, the escargot, shrimp risotto, spare rib with mashed potatoes and the creme brulee and vanilla ice cream. I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. The staff was also very friendly and great!
What a great find! If you're looking for reasonable prices and a good variety of brunch options this place is a gem. From the blood orange mimosa to the pomme de frits (aka French fries) everything was tasty and the staff was friendly!! If you've never tried an oyster before why wait?!
I recommend making reservations. Barbette a small dining room, but an excellent atmosphere! I love the mosaics and artwork. Service is a little slow, but everything is very fresh and healthy! This is a brunch that I don't feel guilty after eating. I ordered the buckwheat crepe with salmon and a cappuccino.
Wow! This is the best food I’ve had in uptown. Highly recommend the coffee and waffles. great service as well, although you definitely want a reservation for prime brunch!
An amazing casual and artistic environment! Super friendly and welcoming staff. Not to mention delicious food, wine and cocktails. Niels was my server and did a wonderful job, always checking on me at the right time and making sure I felt cared for. Magnifique!!
