Just as good the 2nd time. We were at Al’s about 6 years ago when in Minneapolis. The wait was about 40 minutes, about what we expected. We got to sit right next to the grill which we considered numero uno! We each had an omelette and shared a Blueberry ?. Everything was very good the staff was a real pleasure to deal with.
Way better than big breakfast. Would definitely come here again. The staff are very friendly
What a treasure! I think we lucked out with zero wait at 8:30am on a Wednesday. Tiny place with bar seating. Cash or check only. Food was freaking delicious -- buttery and flavorful. Staff are friendly and chill, and the vibe was just simple and fun! Even the coffee was far better than I expected it to be. And you can't beat the prices. Seriously, check this place out. You'll probably have to wait (unlike us), but I guarantee it's worth it. :)
Small cozy place I wanted to try since it was on DDD 1st season. Both of us felt the most of the food was over cooked and the hash browns were under cooked especially in the center.
I had the Spanish omelet and waffles, very yummy! Staff is friendly and the rest of the menu looks great, I hope to be back soon :)
This place has been on my eatery bucket lost for awhile now, ever since it was featured in the 1st season of DDD. Al's Breakfast certainly did not disappoint regarding the expectations I had in every facet imaginable. The experience was absolutely amazing from the friendly staff, friendly co-patrons, quick service and last but not least exceptionally delicious food. Personally I went with the Dinkytown omelette smothered with hollandaise sauce with a side of hash browns and needless to say I cleaned my plate! I definitely plan to eat here again in the future when I'm in Minneapolis for breakfast.
As their receipts say, "An undignified way to start the day." But this 70+ year old establishment is dignified in its indignity. The original Al retired probably 50 years ago, but the current owner is also an Al, as in Alison. I have been a customer there for nearly 40 years and the quality and taste of the food is remarkably consistent. It's not a place to camp out, drink coffee and read the paper. But if you appreciate traditional breakfast foods and are willing to try some of the house specials, this is a must-try experience when in the Cities.
Al's breakfast is a famous restaurant where is located on 14th ave. It's nearby on campus, and there are so many people who will come at the weekend. So get ready to line up for a long time! The last time we waited 30min before we were seated in the restaurant. In the restaurant, there are many banknotes from all around the countries. The restaurant only has a long bar seems like a tiny restaurant but the food wasn't "tiny"! And we had so much fun there the staff is very great! They will ask you with very enthusiasm. And I was ordering the blueberry pancakes, omelets also sausage. The pancake is bigger than the regular one, and the omelets are excellent. The price is not too expensive same as the normal price. In addition, they only took cash. But if you forgot to take cash don't worry. There are some ATMs nearby the restaurant. Just let you know the parking is a big problem at that place. If you come at noon it will be hard to find a place to park. But if you take the green line just need to wake through the on-campus for a few minutes. In the end, I highly recommend you come to this restaurant if you have a chance to travel to Minneapolis! It is an option that can't be refused!
We went here on a Saturday morning. It was freezing outside so the line wasn’t too long. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs when ordering.. the pancakes are amazing. I also got an omelet, which was good but I took 90% of it home. Hashbrowns were okay - not quite crispy enough for my preference. My boyfriend had eggs and the bacon waffle and said it was great. He enjoyed this place so much, we went back again the next day. Hashbrowns were much tastier day 2. Pancakes were still amazing. I would recommend this local place to anyone!
Very delicious American breakfast. The price is great but the food is greater. We came around 11:30 am on Saturday morning and got into until 12:30 pm. So plan early if you don’t want to wait. In addition, they only accept cash and check. No cards or Venmo.
