The food wasn’t good. The meat was cold and didn’t taste like meat. The store was dirty. The whole place had a smell to it . I haven’t seen a dirty/ filthy environment like this before.

First of all, the name "Akwaaba Restaurant" suggests an authentic Ghanaian restaurant. This name is misleading; the restaurant is remotely Ghanaian; the under aged workers and adult workers hardly have a clue on how to run a restaurant, let alone a business. When I inquired from the presumably 12- year old front desk girl, she asked me to walk through the seemingly grocery store and knock on some obscure door behind a shelf in another gloomy room.A gentleman walks out of the filthy dark room holding a baby girl who obviously was in distress. I asked for the menu. He walks me back to the entrance and points to a large poster showing dishes on the wall. None of these dishes on the "menu" were authentic Ghanaian foods. He indicated that his food is eclectic, derived from a variety of West African countries. While waiting for my take out, I reached into the fridge and grabbed a bottle of Perrier Sparkling water. Drunk it in front of the front desk girl and was not added to my bill. The establishment is a filthy mix of a restaurant and quasi grocery shop. I can bet my bottom dollar, this place is not licensed to sell food to the general public. On getting to my hotel, the food was so bad that I had to throw it into the garbage.

Honestly I love the food. Yes as in the comments it was a little dusty and things were piled, but it doesn't seem like super dirty as far as bugs or anything like that especially with being with some of the packaged food they may have in the actual store portion. I had fufu and egusi (Togo spinach). I absolutely loved it. It was my first time ever trying it and I fell in love. I'm going back again real soon!

This place need a lot of house cleaning. If the front is that messy and unorganized I can only imagine how is place where the food is being cooked. Who ever own this place should be ashamed of the the poor hygiene specialy when they know that they are dealing with the public...... on top of this they was a little girl under 10 years taking order in the front..... the food was okay but I will never go back....... Owner if you ever improve your house cleaning I will visit again and update this review.

The place is a little dirty but get over it snow flake the food is great no real dining spots but everyone is really respectful and freindly I got the pounded yam and pepper soup with turkey in chicken, it’s great highly recommend.

Bro… for everyone who left a review and didn’t mention the absolutely disgusting condition of this shop… Wow. Ive reported all your reviews and am actively working to get you band. There was a stench so foul in the dirty shop when I walk in I wanted to gag. The Dirt, the grime, the smell of something rotting, the blatant disregard for human Health and sanitation. My God. Literally feel sick to my stomach. Will not return

So the lights were cut out in back half of store/restaurant. The store was a mess. Bags of plantain chips eaten through by mice/rodents. He also double taxed our food. He over charges for everything literally his friends or Co workers were rude as well.

Closest thing to the motherland that you can get real authentic real comfort food I love everything about this place my favorite food.

This is easily the dirtiest shop I've ever been into. I had to try and block that out to try this food. Layers of dirt and grime everywhere, piles of junk all over and a stray shoe on the floor. I cringe to think what's going on in the kitchen. The food was okay, as I've never had West African food before this, I can't say if it was well executed. I plated the dishes pictured.

Excellent food! Very pricey though. But it's worth it.
