Let me preface my review by saying our waitress Alisha was hardworking and under pressure to wait on more tables than should have been expected. We arrived around 5:45pm and were seated right away. The restaurant was moderately busy and our drinks came out in a timely fashion. The place started getting busier. After 45 minutes my husband reminded our server about the starter my son ordered and at the same time my son asked for a refill. The owner brought the appetizer out shortly after and my son very politely asked her to remind our server about his refill. She was very condescending and said "as you can see, we're very busy but I'll let her know." We were very aware they were busy as we had been there before they got busy and watched several tables who were seated after us get served before us. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The food was good but not special. Alisha was doing the best she could. The owner, I didn't get her name, was just rude.
Love the environment! Great building and history. The menu was old school tradition, loved that. The reason for the 3 stars… my husband and I had a burger and it was very good however, the fries we each got were terrible. I think they may need to change there oil. There were pieces of potato chips and onion rings in our mix of fries and the fries were very limp, terrible flavor. I would love to come back and try this place again! This really is a nice place to eat and the beer is cold.
Service was good, staff was fine, the food was pretty blah. Good atmosphere if you just want an old dive bar type of place though.
Nice old fashioned retro bar, love the decor. You like Moose? Who doesn't? Very close to downtown and close to everything that is downtown TC. You must check it out at least once.
We were referred by a local to try the perch. Unfortunately It wasn’t good. I ordered the perch basket 16.99, it came with fries and coleslaw. The perch didn’t have any flavor and both the fish and fries seemed like they were reheated and not freshly fried. If we would return I would try something else next time.
Great service, delicious food in a fun/ unique setting First time trying out Sleder’s Family Tavern and it won’t be our last. Dave, our server was attentive, friendly and helpful. Setting feels like a true up north adventure- think moose and buffalo heads hung over carved wooden booths, old-fashioned ice cream chairs circle round tables… and a bar right out of some beloved old movie… truly a blast from the past, in the best way. As for the meal- right away, Dave’s appetizer recommendation (fried smelt) was spot on. The fried perch dinner was served with a mountain of tater tots underneath, which my son really enjoyed. The cherry bbq chicken was moist, sweet, tangy and equally bountiful: a full 1/2 chicken, served with redskins and we both had a nice garden salad too. Needed a box to take some home for tomorrow. Four thumbs up overall!
Nice atmosphere to the place. The service was good along with the food. My wife had the perch basket and had the club sandwich. Each had good flavor.
Went for lunch. Had the cheese steak sandwich and tots. It was delicious. My friend had the cod basket and she loved hers also. Friendly staff. Quick service.
Good food, good variety, good prices in a historical building. Oldest restaurant in Michigan!
A classic. Looking forward to celebrating their 140th birthday with a Sleders burger.
