I had been to Portillo’s in Chicago. I had enjoyed the restaurant there. It is the epitome of what folks think a Chicago dog is. An all beef hotdog steamed, and served on a steamed poppyseed roll, with all the accoutrements: relish, mustard, celery salt, sport peppers, A quarter slice dill pickle, two half sliced tomatoes.I was very excited to hear that Portillo‘s had opened up a Michigan Location not too far from me in Sterling Heights, in the lakeside mall outer parking ring! Today I had the time and took the drive out. This is the first restaurant Portillo’s opened in Michigan. The architecture and decor of this restaurant is something to behold! It is a modern looking building with an outdoor patio and a revolving door to get inside. Once inside, I felt like I was in a combination of Disneyland and a tribute to Detroit and it’s industrial past, present and future. There is memorabilia on every square inch of wall space and an old model T tow truck suspended from the ceiling overhanging the main dining room. There are assembly line tracks, pulleys, hooks, and racks of automobile accessories everywhere! You actually forgot that you were in a restaurant!Oh yeah! Then there’s the food. I had the Chicago dog and fries. It was just like the Portillo‘s in Chicago. Authentic and amazingly delicious! There is also a dessert bar here! I saw somebody order a chocolate cake slice that looked like it was the size of Texas! LOL! They also have Italian beef sandwiches, chop salads, and burgers and all looked phenomenal! I can’t wait to come back and try everything! I say this: Come to Portillo’s just for the architecture and decor, stay for the food! Don’t miss this place!
Super friendly workers and quick service. The food was excellent and I really enjoyed their hot dogs with everything on it. Added bonus, if you have 1/2 of a small order of fries you will be able to reexperience all the salt you've ever consumed/been within 10 feet of in your entire life all at once in a few fries. Best way I can describe them is salt-battered crinklecut fries.As you can see, I only had about half of the small order because I didn't want to ingest the rest of the ocean's salt content off a potato.
Worth the Hype! The Hot Italian Beef and lemon cake shake are a great combo. The inside of the restaurant was very clean. All employees at this location were friendly. Portillos has a great fast casual atmosphere!
First time here with the wife. I had a couple hot dogs and fries. She had a cheeseburger and fries. Food was pretty good. The chocolate cake is really good. The downer was it was a bit pricey, but we will be back.
First time here and not overly impressed. Expensive for a hot dog joint. Spent almost $50 for hot dogs and hamburgers and then they charge extra for bar b que sauce since the beef needed something. The roast beef at Arby's is much better. Chicken strips and the hot dog were good, but wouldn't recommend the beef.

I ordered a Italian beef and sausage combo with the peppers. Very bland! Don’t recommend. Also the spicy chicken sandwich was all breading. Terrible food.
Much more than just a a hot dog joint! Chicken sandwiches, hot beef sandwiches, Italian sausages, and great burgers... Just to name a few of the other options. You order at the counter and pick up your food at the opposite side of the counter. Typical quick service restaurant. You can watch your food being prepared by the team as you make your way to wait for your food. Staff has been pleasant and friendly every time we visit. Tables are quickly cleaned up and ready to go after people are done eating. Never had a problem finding a open table. So far the burgers and spicy chicken sandwiches are our favorite items on the menu.
The Italian Beef with hot peppers is one of the best sandwiches ever!!!
Fell in love with this place in Chicago and am beyond ecstatic they are finally here in Michigan! I'm convinced you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The onion rings are crispy perfection and the Italian beef and sausage is my absolute favorite.The Chicago hot dog is delicious as well!If you dine in they play great music! Restaurant is super clean and well taken care of.Highly recommend coming here and I hope they are here to stay!
