I don't have enough good to say about Jake's Old City Grill and specifically the owner, Paul. My husband and I moved our wedding up with less than a month to plan after unfortunately learning about a very unexpected and serious health condition of a loved one. We moved the wedding from Massachusetts to a backyard in Saginaw, and I reached out to Jake's two weeks prior to the wedding to inquire about catering the event. The food was absolutely spectacular and the customer service was astounding. Our families could not stop raving about how delicious every dish was, and everything tasted just like we were eating it in a restaurant. I cannot recommend Jake's more highly; Paul's professionalism, flexibility, knowledge, and high quality product were more than we could ever have hoped for. He was so thoughtful about the food preparation and presentation, and he clearly takes pride in his product. 10/10 experience; we highly recommend Jake's!
Busy night and we were a large party. We had excellent service. The food was fantastic and all courses for everyone came out at same time with no errors. No one needed to ask for refills on drinks as waitress was on top of it. Some said they couldn't keep up with her. Wonderful history, make sure to ask if you don't already know.
You have to have a burger here. Best place I've ate in Saginaw. Top 5 in Michigan. Cook the burger to exactly how you order it. Wedge salad is on point. Drink are strong and taste perfect. Servers are the front line to this. The cooks be bombing your taste buds from the back. Matt you rocked brother.
Charming classy downtown restaurant. Excellent food and staff as well. Reasonably priced.
In town for a meeting, our group selected Jakes based on TripAdvisor. We were immediately enchanted by the building, presentation of the rooms and the extensive collection of photos, articles, and so forth, on the walls. As we were browsing, we were joined by the hospitable owner, Paul Berrera, who filled in thehistory of Little Jake and Jake's Old City Grill. Our meals were very good, service impeccable. Several in our group announced plans to make sure they bring families and others back for future visits.
Went to Jake’s for a celebratory dinner. We’ve been to Jake’s several times of the years and have always enjoyed it. Last night, was definitely a change. Service was good and waiter was friendly. Food was average. 1. CEO Martini is supposed to be served with bleu cheese stuffed olives. First one came out with no olives, waiter then brought pimento stuffed olives. Second CEO martini ordered came out with pimento stuffed olives. Don’t know if supply chain issues are causing problems but ok, it happens. 2. Spinach and artichoke dip was flavorful and tasty. Enjoyed it. 3. Caesar salad was good. 4. Ordered the Scottish salmon entree with twice baked potato. The salmon was delicious and properly cooked. The twice baked potato was not a twice baked. It appeared to be a standard baked potato which had been held too long (the flesh was somewhat brownish/grey instead of white) and was rather firm inside. It had then been topped with cheese and bacon. To me, a twice baked potato is baked, scooped, insides mashed then put back in the skin with the bacon and cheese. 5. Partner ordered the osso bucco. It was way over salted (and partner likes salt), the shank only had about six small bites of meet, and there was a preponderance of potatoes. 6. There were only two dessert options due to other desserts still being frozen (per the waiter). We both ordered the chocolate truffle bombe. It was good, but you could tell it had been previously frozen as it was still slightly icy inside. In my opinion, Jake’s has slipped from being very good to average. I hope last night was an exception, and not the new norm.
Jake's was excellent. We were visiting Frankenmuth and saw this restaurant operating out of an old 1850's building and had to go.Firstly, the place was immaculately clean. For a building that old, it looked like it was built only a few years ago. The ceilings were gorgeously refinished and it was preserved like a time capsule almost.Secondly, the food was excellent. I had the filet and lobster and it was perfectly cooked. Steak was maybe a tad bit too salty, but still very flavorful and executed very well. The host was very friendly and the wait staff was helpful and quick. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a bit more upscale dining but with casual atmosphere.
The New York Strip was made right. But the serving staff needs to be better trained. I understand that they are new, so I cut them some slack, but they didn't know the menu or the items enough, rushed for our orders, forgot basic serving plates for appetizers and then forgot steak knives, went missing at the wrong times but came back and disrupted conversations with questions that they should have already asked, had to hand all the dishes to him rather than him grabbing them for us, didn't check on us for dessert, had to flag him down for service a few times, and we herd other tables having issues. At a place like this, you are paying for not only good food, but a good atmosphere and good service.
This was an excellent dinner, I had the land and sea plate which was two tenderloin medallions, 2 scallops and 2 shrimp. Also a side salad and the chocolate truffle bombe dessert. I have to say it was very very good I enjoyed it very much. I will definitely come back if I am in Saginaw again. We had a very nice server he did a good job. Overall it was an excellent experience
This is a fantastic restaurant. The atmosphere is very classy, and the menu has a wide variety of choices, from sandwiches, burgers, pasta and salads, to seafood, pork chops, and steaks. Their cocktails are delightful. I ordered the land and sea entrée, and it was outstanding. The steak was cooked to perfection. The red skinned potatoes were absolutely delicious. Our waiter had an incredible memory and was very funny. We had a wonderful time.
